The chooseable genders in video games is an interesting thing. In games like Mass Effect, where personal choice shapes the world around you, having both genders available is a perfectly viable option. However, some games are about a singular story. While a lot of single player games don't typically have all that great of a story (in comparison to literature or other story based media), the gender of the characters is often a part of the story, or at the very least, a part of what makes the character who they are.

Except MMOs, the last game I played where gender was an option is Pokemon lol

Thinking forwards, imagine if the next Grand Theft Auto had a 2 story type thing, 1 from a male (the main char from previous games if they have any connection), and the other from a female one. I wonder what creative activities would they allow the female one to do lol

EDIT: assuming fair share of abilities like the usual run around, pick up weapons, steal cars, but for the extra activities

Unless I still got to fuck hookers, and then run them over to get my money back, then I wouldn't play the female.

Because they might not allow that in the game for the female character. Duh?
And if you ask why they wouldn't... I have nothing to say to you other than that you are literally one of the slow children at play.

Don't forget that it isn't always the choice of the player what actions they take.

Why wouldn't they? There are plenty of games that allow female characters to sleep with (female) prostitutes. GTA seems like the last game that wouldn't allow it.

Nah bro. They would just have tons of gigolos walking the streets of the city. You'd also have a 20% chance of getting pregnant and having your game end prematurely when you find out 20 in game days later.

Do they allow players to play female characters (soldiers?) in the other popular games? i.e. the CoD/MW series.

I figured if they really want to clamp this down (or improve education of the state of things), popular titles might be the way to go.

There was some controversy not too long ago over an Aliens game not having female playable characters. Critics said that it was absurd that a franchise that was known for lead female protagonists didn't have any female mooks you could choose from.

Somewhat in CoD's defense there, they've typically tried to present a somewhat realistic military structure even in their outlandish stories, and women weren't allowed in combat positions until like a month ago. Maybe in MW4!

I definitely had femshep bang thane, and I think get as far as she could with tali.

Which made it a little awkward when shep died and thane and tali appeared to be left to repopulate the universe.
