You know why I'm fine with it? 'cause it doesn't hurt me (or anyone else).
I'm not going to stop being dismissive of illogical viewpoints. It really is silly to get bent out of shape having someone talk to you.

I can see not being okay with the touching, but I never said that was fine for anyone else.

And you don't want to be painted in the same light as said group? Who can blame you. I'd be so embrassed if Feminists are labeled child abuser sympathizers too.

If only there was something we can draw parallels from. Give me a second I'll think of something.

Feminist... Can't say "hello" to them even as a courtesy, but if they diddle next to a child it's " up for debate"... Logic!

Yeah hey you know what it sure is interesting that I'm condemning those who are using feminism as a shield for sexual abuse. I wonder if some other group who was feeling unfairly tarred were condemning members who perpetrate death threats, casual misogyny and vocally and non-anonymously used their platform to promote a clear set of positive changes for the greater good. Oh wait, they still can't shut the fuck up about Zoe Quinn and pretend either death threats are faked or not legitimate because the women targeted haven't died yet.

We 'do' say hello to each other in the streets when we pass each other. Man or woman. Its actually pretty rude not to at least give a wave or nod or something. Many people will speak though.

That hashtag just seems silly to me since its sarcastic encouragement to do things that we... actually already do.
I'm hesitant to make a broad generalization like this but I think it's mostly a South v. North culture thing. I live in Louisiana and it's pretty much the same way here, even in New Orleans. Random people greet me on the streets all the time, and in fact it used to annoy the piss out of me cause I'm particularly non-social and don't really ever feel like talking to people I don't know. My point being there are a lot of people who have different sensibilities even within your own area and if you are used to greeting everyone you meet, since that's pretty much the common thing to do, I think it's a bit short-sighted to expect them to know you aren't in a talking mood.

Now if you persist in conversation or even worse straight up start stalking them even after they spurned your greeting that shit is unacceptable. But getting pissed off just because people are being cordial is a horrible way to go through life. Trust me I used to be the same way.

So just so we're clear on this: are you saying you're going to be saying "hello" and "god bless you" specifically to females that interest you (like the guys did in the video), despite the fact that you might be making some of them uncomfortable?

I want to be clear if the possibility of making women feel uncomfortable and crossing their boundaries does not deter you.

I'm going to continue to say hello to people. People. (Some of them will be women)
I'm not going to assume everyone doesn't want me to talk to them because a few people might not want me to.

Since you're not going to be precise in your meaning, i'll just have to try to interpret what you're saying until you tell me whether i'm correct or not.

In the video we saw of the woman being catcalled, you could see that despite being surrounded by dozens of people, the guys in that video directed their attention and their hellos to the female with the nice hips and big tits. When you say " i'm going to continue to say hello to people" are you saying that you're going to say hello to everyone in your general vicinity and not simply direct your attention to the hottest piece of ass within 10 meters of you like the guys in the video did?

There's a big difference between "I say hello to everyone" and "I say hello to big booty bitches".

I welcome your exposition on how I missed the point. If you're not going to explain how I missed the point, I'm just going to presume you're not interested in a discussion.

The point was, according to some saying hello to anyone is harassment
    .
I for one nod/say hello to everyone and live in TX and it's generally how everyone else responds.

The argument was that, its harassing hot chick's because male privilege or some shit .

No ones argued against the cat calling etc just that simply greeting / being nice =/= harassment

I don't see how this discussion has been allowed to continue as long as it did if this is really all there is to it.

Saying hello to everyone you see isn't harassment, much less cat calling. Saying hello just to the pretty women that you see walk around you could be considered cat calling, but whether it's harassment or not will depend on how persistent you are in trying to get female attention despite the fact that the women in question haven't shown any interest in talking to you.

Saying "hello" to someone, regardless of your motivations, isn't problematic, unless it gets to be like, "Hellooooooooo" or something of that sort. I talked to lots of people at bus stops, on the bus, walking on the streets in Seattle. Some were hot, some weren't, but I certainly didn't talk to EVERYONE.

But they were all, whether I talked to them because they had a sports emblem I associated with, or a color of shirt I liked, or whatever, free to ignore me, or brush me off, or whatever. Saying "hello" isn't offensive-- some people might be offended, but that's honestly *their* problem. Some people are offended by others being gay, or black, or short, or ginger. Others are offended at them being offended by that. And then they are, in turn, offended that people are offended that they're offended at people being gay or black or short or ginger.

People come in vast varieties. Some people desperately want someone-- ANYONE-- to talk to them. And honestly? If I have to pick between maybe offending someone by saying, "Hi," or making someone's day better? I'm gonna go for making someone's day better by doing it. Because someone's probably not committing suicide because I said hey. Someone might very well *not* commit suicide because someone showed them something like kindness. And yeah. Maybe they were only kind because that person was hot. So?

And yes. I do reserve the right to define just how far I will empathize with a mysterious person's potential to be offended. I'm not going to shout out racial epithets, and I'm not going to scream "FAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT" and I won't eyeball someone's chest and beg them to motorboat. I think most reasonable people would conclude all of that's likely to offend. I do not believe that "Hi" is likely to offend. And I think it's substantially more likely to improve someone's day. And if it doesn't? Well. Then I just pity them. I cannot imagine the terrified hell someone must be enduring if they are so terrified of, and put off by, humanity that "hi" is a traumatic experience, whether it's once or a dozen or a hundred times in a day.

It's continued because there are people in this thread who think saying hello to a woman is harassment, even though men can't always infer that a woman just wants to be left alone.

There's a difference between not looking for conversation with a stranger, and not wanting to conversate with strangers. Apparently we have feminist in here who think that if a woman is not looking to conversate with strangers, saying hi to them is harassment. They don't understand the difference and therefore continue to harass us with their nonsense.

Before you ask, yes there are times when it's quite obvious a woman doesn't not want to talk to any one; body language can go a long way. I'd argue however that most of the time it's impossible to tell that a woman just isn't looking to conversate, but if you're bold and don't stutter like a pubescent child and walk up to her and say "hi", she'll respond in kind and maybe you'll hit it off. Or hit her, cause men are animals and shit.

I don't think it was, but hey and maz are such loud voices in this thread it'd hard to ignore them.

I mean, it's not hard but it's quite rude =(
