Sometimes you just gotta grab the low-hanging fruit.
I, too, enjoy the Oppression Olympics!
It's also hypocritical of her to demand lgbt activists devote more time to feminist issues. She may be right about misogyny among gay men but she went about it the wrong way. Her whole attitude came off as trying to shame lgbt activists into supporting women's issues more. That might be well and good if she went about it as a suggestion or as a plea but it just came off as preachy and demanding. She is doing exactly the same thing some men have been doing in this thread when they claim that feminists aren't really about equality because they emphasize women's issues as opposed to men's issues.
I already mentioned that women should decide what their priorities are in feminism and it is natural that women's issues take precedent. Rightfully she has no right, as a straight woman, to demand lgbt people focus on women's issues rather than lgbt issues.
Her argument that women's issues are lgbt issues can be debated but she certainly doesn't get to demand it.
Not fully appropriate for this thread but I don't feel the need to make a new one and figured I'd share.
The mentality of that researcher sounds like 'actual' institutionalized misandry to me.

I agree the conversation's been muddied by people trying to pawn it off as zero-commitment honest hello's or whatever. Which does happen a lot, admittedly, but the world shouldn't really care about that lol; everyone should have the right to say hello and everyone should have the right to not accept it, living in a world where people should avoid talking to each other because some can't handle it is pretty silly and I can't believe that's what the conversation came to. I'll try and spice things up
It's always been about sex. Why say "conquest" though? You've began your hypothetical approach poorly and are justifying all approaches have poor outcomes associated with them. That's not what should be happening - more over, I agree that, if some guy DOES go to women looking for another notch in their ego belt... yeah, that's probably going to be a shitty interaction between any well adjusted cute girl and a douchebag looking to fill his void up. But that's the same on the flip side with whores/sluts, I see no inequality here.. just shitty people who have never bothered to learn (like the ones in the video). I have to deal with shitty girls all the time, and unlike a girl I can't just say no to their advances because >I< was the one who started it all and found out after that she sucks lol. No lamenting after, no romanticizing what I went through, and most importantly no creating a victim complex about how crappy girls are and how unfortunate it is to be me
Let me ask you, if you had a million dollars to hand someone, would you care if they're on the phone, talking with their friend, or on their way to work? If a guy has cultivated enough value through his years by being able to relate empathetically really well, is confident, has a lot going for them, is fun, is non-judgemental, is generally happy, doesn't NEED the girl to be happy(this is the worse one not to have), etc etc then that guy will have 0 trouble putting the majority of women he meets at ease and comfortable. And it isn't because she's the next conquest, it's because having and making relationships is fun and enjoyable
If a girl gets her psyche worn by rejecting advances then I cannot be more serious when I say this: she's got bigger problems that's she's gonna need to work on if she wants a successful love life, luckily, she can actually learn how to provide more value from her personality rather than trying to muzzle every guy out there. Even if nobody "harassed" her, there'd be some OTHER issue that she'd complain about. It should be such a non-issue to overlook unwanted advances and move on with your life, happily. These girls are literally a BURDEN to be around because of their negativity - they'd better get used to those shitty guys making advances on them because they definitely wont get to settle down with a cool guy with that personality
Please do tell us about how empathetic you are towards the burden of having to reject advances every 6 minutes.
This dude thinks he's just as oppressed because he has to deal with advances HE initiated, at the time of his own liking, when he was in the proper mood, etc. It's not like women also do it that way, right?
That's a joke, right? I don't think I'm oppressed at all. In fact, I thought I made it a point to say that up there. IF I was less of a man I COULD start complaining about it and create some complex about it.
Edit: Actually, if I wanted to draw a more similar parallel I could go on about how tough it is to be a guy because I always have to "get myself in the mood" and approach women if I want a hot girlfriend. But that'd be just complaining about how things are. Life's much better if you embrace it and work it in your favor
Yeah, girls don't do it the same way and so they have a different set of problems than men. We are different, I think that is OK. We should understand how we are different and move forward so that we're not confused when society works the way it does. If you want girls to be just as aggressive/promiscuous then you're fighting against nature. In all the animal kingdoms, among all the species' that reproduce sexually, one of the sexes is aggressive/promiscuous and the other choosy/protective (and 99% of them are ones where male is promiscuous and women is choosy, like ours)
Again, if that's a burden to a girl she is a chronically unhappy women. The girl in the vid ROLLED HER EYES when people said have a good day, she knew she wouldn't have to deal with "advances" because they started off by saying GOODBYE, lol. She couldn't handle LISTENING to other people who are speaking at her. How often would she be complaining, nagging, trying to shame, and being just plain negative in a relationship? That's not the behavior we should be advocating to anybody. Most of the feminism you talk about is shrouded in negativity and anger, it's just not healthy for anybody
Those guys in the vid have a little ways to go before they can go up to women like that with success, but that girl also has a little ways to go if she wants quality men - because nobody successful is going to deal with that stuff for too long... there are just too many other girls who are way happier in their lives
Because this thread is lacking women who deal with catcalling, I'll post the experience of a mediocre looking overweight coworker of mine.

>Says I don't want to assume all men are predators
>Provides experience of a man being a predator that helped shape her views on the subject
Men want women. Men don't deserve women, but men are going to actively try and get a woman; that's nature, deal with it. We can be respectful about it, or we can be disgusting about it. Some choose to be disgusting because shocker it works on some of the lower tier women, or they didn't have proper role models growing up to show them how. Do these men suck? Absolutely. What do you want to do about it?
Maybe they just want to rant and get a tiny bit of understanding from people who don't have that problem? All she is doing is complaining about people not thinking it can be an issue.
Would your post really be so bad if it had ended with "it must get pretty annoying/frustrating at times, glad I don't have to deal with it" ?
FFS lol. We have been acknowledging that catcalling and harassment is bullshit and noone should have to deal with it for 20 pages. The only argument people are trying to make is not every fucking hello i catcalling, and we can't just stop all human interaction because some people are overly sensitive.
She pretty much says that every hello from a random uninvited stranger that she engaged with turned into a pickup attempt - so while in theory "hello" isn't always catcalling, if women experience that every hello in that context is a pickup attempt, what are they supposed to do?
All I have learned from this thread is that I must be people of walmart ugly rather than just unattractive lol.
That, or I can hope archi's friend is strongly exaggerating the once per day average.
Eh, she lives right in the center of LA and walks a lot, she has more exposure to potential catcalling than most LA residents who spend 99% of their outdoor lives in their cars.
