It's ok to harass people who are privileged, of course. That's why feminists are adamant about defending themselves whenever they're accused of having privilege (which women do have a lot of privilege). The "privileged" label means people are effectively less than human, deserving of scorn and abuse. Their opinions no longer matter, and their actions, no matter how trivial, are reflective of an overarching systematic oppression of women (patriarchy). Feminism is complete bullshit these days. Equality is cool, but what feminism is aiming for in no way resembles equality.

When boys are given puzzles to put together as a kid, or legos to build, and girls get dolls, this is sexist, and part of the culture, and also contributes to making them feel unwelcome. A lot of it is probably not intentional, but continues anyway because people don't think about the little things they do, because everyone else does the same thing, and they don't realize how harmful it is.

I don't necessarily agree with this being sexist, but more to my point: I don't see how you can say all of that and then believe that female underrepresentation in STEM is all about hostility. You just admitted that part of culture in America involves giving all the STEM toys to boys while girls get dolls and the like... yet we're also to believe that has little to do the imbalance of representation in STEM?

And really, of all the places where women may try to work and be met with actual severe and blatant hostility/harassment... law, business, management, entrepreneurship... STEM is where people are focusing? It doesn't even compare.

Science and the scientific method are mostly a culmination of white, settler colonialist values that have been imposed on most of the world and have their own inherent agendas and biases....you can discount things like gender studies and the experiences and feelings of women/survivors/minorities. Let's be clear. If feminism keeps acting like this, it will be the most hated word in the next few decades since communism in the US. For real. This whole, "let's HATE on someone/something to raise awareness! not raise concerns politely, give ideas, give reasons, offer alternatives, solutions, etc etc! JUST HATE!" is marxist born, critical theory. It's negative, and NOT HELPFUL to society. It's going to catch up to these edgy neofeminists and it's going to swallow the whole movement.

Feminists, all of them, need to understand that playing the activist isn't supposed to be fun, cool, and easy. It's tough to swallow pride and lose battles so that you can win the war. How successful would Rosa Park's action have been if she instead yelled at the bus driver like a Tyler Perry comedy? They're making huge mistakes by going along with shit like this and saying this was a good example of feminism striking.

Because everything has to be a priority #1 issue with Feminism. There is no scale of importance for tumblr feminists. Everything deserves 100% of their rage. Even to the point where the person who screwed up, over a FUCKING SHIRT, is CRYING on national TV.
