German city decides to make half of its pedestrian crossing signs feature female figures, and half be male figures. Gets shit because the female figure is sexist for having ponytails and a skirt.



Where do I start. What's wrong with gender-neutral stick figures? How do you even represent gender in a simplistic silhouette without referencing stereotypes? Who the fuck cares about representation in signage? Do deaf/amputee/blind/etc. people get pissed that the signage for "Disabled" is a person in a wheelchair? Do you stop at women? Do you make trans lights? Do you stop at making gendered crossing signs? When does it become antithetical to the purpose of street signs to have to recognize multiple different gendered versions of the same sign?

I was under the impression that wearing the same basic outfit with a different tie was the standard for most ultra-professional (suit/tie) jobs.

Thats because men can only really wear suits in any sort of professional setting where women have tons of different clothing options, so people pay attention to that. Thanks feminism.
