You are all terrible people.
during the dark ages the Catholic church was the leading sponsor of scientific research in the western world as well as being the only institution with an organizational emphasis on classical and mathematical education
Lol
lol yiou guys
by the Renaissance (and even towards the end of the late-middle age with the establishment of the proto-inquisitions) the church became the friendly agent of intolerance to secular advancement we all know and love, but that was not the epoch alluded to and western civilization does owe the institution something approaching gratitude for keeping the light alive post-Rome pre-Renaissance
mods plz change thread title to Scientific Advancement and the Catholic Church in the Pre-Industrial World
thank the catholic church for the dark ages?
Uh... remind yourself the distribution of education at the time
Correlation =/= causation
The church ALWAYS slowed down advancement, it's just that at that time the ONLY educated people were nobility/rich/etc and they were basically REQUIRED to have ties to the church
If you expected a scientist to have risen up in that time and completely disavow god then that's crazy. It'd be like a guy today saying women like to be dominated, choked, and aggressed upon. Doesn't matter how true it is (50 shades of grey, pick up artists, rock stars, etc), you're fighting against the SJWs (which I'm likening to the church of the dark ages, here)
Maybe that'll get this thread out of the shitter. I like debating here
I guess someone missed the memo that it was only a few years ago that the church actually got around to apologizing for what it did to Galileo and admitting they might have been in the wrong.
Poor guy, i must have struck a religious nerve w him, with my feminism comparisant
Well its a good thing Galileo missed the dark ages by a few hundred years, otherwise that would be relevant.
