Trigger warning: the bitch spoils a lot of games from 2010-2013 lol
internet-boy taliban mount up!
regardless of the accuracy or salience of her message reckon the last half dozen posts of this thread where she's called a cunt, a bitch, and judged solely on her appearance is prolly more indicative of why she turned off comments
now i think she should be more thick skinned, people can call me a cunt til they're blue in the face, but some folks take exception to it
I understand this; however, YouTube has a function that does let you moderate video responses, much as some forums queue posts for review before they may be posted. She would have to deal with the profanity, but she could allow moderated comments at least.
Allowing no comments whatsoever just looks lazy. There's also the whole "full of one's self" thing, too.
If she is so strong in her convictions comments shouldn't deter her.
She didn't want to start a dialog. she wanted to lecture and get paid for it and she did. This is why some people are turned off by it. Me on the other hand? I hate the bitch cause she's a pretentious ugly bitch that spoiled breath of fire IV for me.
Ironically it's white knights that come to her defense much to her dismay.
A "trigger warning" for "violence against women" but no goddamn spoiler warnings.
Says it all, really. She doesn't give a crap about videogames, just getting herself heard and getting her all-important attention for her super-important soapbox and pet issues.
What I want to know is why she didn't take the extra 150k or whatever and, you know, make a videogame with it. Thats a damn sight less than what that Arkh Project catastrophe asked for (about 100k?).
Not sure if these were posted yet but I entirely agree with this guy.
Although the title was already a generalization—namely, one that equals feminism to "untruth" by pitting it against the so-labeled "facts"—I decided to give it a listen. The beginning of the video wasn't that bad, but the author took less than five minutes to devolve their argument into one about sentimentality and a dislike for feminism. Again, this shouldn't have been surprising, given the video's title, but it's unfortunate when someone attempts to counter a weak argument with a weaker one.
I find that people who do not substantiate their arguments with facts tend to use the word "facts" to represent their opinions nonetheless, and that they do so rather often. The key to successfully winning a debate is to thoroughly debunk whomever you are arguing against, however—not attempt to win over your viewers/listeners by appealing to their emotions. Though that method may work, it is cheap, and intellectually unsatisfying.
Wonder if the money left over wasn't better spent being donated to a batterd women sheltered.
This part had more content than the first one, but the fact that she cherry picks her examples from a selection of mostly B-list games in order to fit her narrative says a lot. Supposedly the next part will talk about games that don't follow the damsel in distress trope, so we'll only have to wait another 2-3 months to hear about that.
I made it ten minutes in until she started talking about the damsel in distress in the fridge and couldn't take the bullshit anymore. Also I think she said "trope" about a hundred times.
Don't really care for her videos. It's something worth discussing, but I don't agree with everything she says, or the examples she picks. That said, I don't see the big deal about her videos existing, and she wouldn't be a big deal at all if rampantly stupid gamerdudes hadn't flipped their shit in the first place.
Jimquisition on the subject kinda sums it up:

And on the subject of Youtube comments disabled = debate stifled? I have to laugh. Because we all know there's nowhere else on the wide world of the internet to... discuss things.
And nothing of value was lost.
I thought people explicitly said they were okay with the comments being turned off, but they thought it was stupid that she disabled rating (voting her video up/down).
Some people did, but some people did not. They said she needed thicker skin / should expect criticism if she is going to criticize. Rhinox said "If she is so strong in her convictions comments shouldn't deter her". That comment moderation is available to her.
Personally I find it really really hard to care about the rights of youtube commenters, and having them lose comment privileges after the sheer volume of insults and rape/death threats they inundated her with last time seems an unsurprising consequence.
Name calling and threats of physical violence/Death sure didn't deterred other people in the past. Not saying its right but feelings getting hurt is no reason to disable comments.
Pretty sure there weren't report or spam buttons back then either nor where people actively arrested for threats and comments.
Why not though? Why is comments on/off a big deal at all, and not just personal preference? I just don't see why it's so important that everyone no matter what gets their chance to speak directly under the video. Their opinions all deserve equal exposure with the vid itself just because they clicked the comment button? That it's all on the video-maker to police the legion of mouthbreathers because somewhere in there, some people have legitimate criticism to level? It's not like she shut down the internet... they can still talk about it.
