Judaism has a logically untenable fascination with the idea that they're a single race. There are obvious reasons that they're wrong (for instance, conversion to Judaism is possible), but it is hardly the most illogical belief across the spectrum of religious thought.

And there are jews that marry outside the jewish community, and it has occurred for centuries upon centuries. But the close knit community even in diaspora has kept a pool enough to make the claim.

This distinction alone is enough to give credibility to the claim of it being a race (breed, whatever), though obviously the race and religion are separate things. One can be converted to, the other can't be converted from.

HEXA mutations are rare and are most seen in genetically isolated populations.

Basically, god's chosen people inbred a little bit too much. Hardly a dead ringer for a "new race". It's an ethnicity at most.

Remember, to call them a race means they genetically differentiated themselves at some point...what point is that? When Abraham said "ok Israelites, let's do this thing"? That moment? Sometime in a thousand years after that point?

Takes a lot longer than that for humans to significantly differentiate genetically.

there is enough biological differentiation that they can be seen as a homogeneous ethnicity, certainly more distinct than most ethnicities in North and South America, and it is obviously a religion. don't know which part of that is difficult to grasp

If Jew is a race, then so was, say, Viking. If the whole "god's chosen people" thing wasn't part of their belief structure no one (jews or otherwise) would consider them a distinct race - they're are held out as "the other" by their exclusionary practices and their white non-christianness.

Let's not get too hung up on semantics. As far as I'm aware, the term "race" is scientifically meaningless. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, and preferably not with some bullshit sociology definition.
