That video is old and all sorts of holes have been poked in it already, I really don't even want to go through this again.
Either way, it isn't a gendered problem like this moron states it is. Its definitely not a men's problem considering that far more than half of domestic violence is reciprocal. (And most people in the know can tell you that women actually hit more often, its just that men tend to do more damage when they do, you know, being stronger on average and all that.)
His statements are not even working off facts so the video is worthless.
She's posted another one, for anyone who still cares about her bullshit.
Thanks!
Still with it:
is it me or do those hoop earrings keep getting bigger?
typical comment from the patriarchy rhinox
can't help the cis male in me
If he's in you, he's probably not all that 'cis', amirite?
with a honey in the middle theres some leeway
It's so offensive that brothels and prostitution are featured in mature rated video games. We need better realism in our video games. because prostitution and brothels don't exist in real life. At all. And girls dancing slutty at bars doesn't happen. At all. That girl that grinded on my leg at the gay bar was just being friendly and playin the whole "girl power" card. Y'know. Realism.
My main gripe with Anita and what she's doing is she doesn't give any solution or rather her solution is we shouldn't make ANY of those types of games. Which isn't realistic at all.
Anita does more to hurt the feminist movement then help it. Her videos are terrible, and 99% of the reason she has gotten any press is because of /v/ neckbeards+12yr olds threatening her instead of just leaving her alone and letting her kickstarter die like it was going to before the press reported on it.
Why do you say that? Do you refute any of the points she makes? Or is it more of the same "lol dis bitch bad" as the rest of the thread?
One of those "I know this is bad, but I can't explain why." Probably just as bad as neckbearding.
Haven't really joined the conversation on this thread Because I can't really formulate an articulate response on her douchebaggery.
Edit: Clearly there are some points to be made on both sides of the argument, but one way of going about it is Not claiming to know/research something without any substantial or creditable methodology upon which you've attained that knowledge.
Honestly not a single fuck given. You wouldnt tell an artist what to paint or a musician what to play. What makes you presume that you can tell video game devs what their game content should be. Women are objectified in every form of media. If you really want to make a change in the video game industry then you will have to do it yourself, but telling someone their creative vision is flawed or wrong because it has attractive women in it is probably the dumbest thing I have heard from the feminist point of view.
Same criticisms to previous videos pretty much still apply here. Lack of context in a lot of examples, no distinction between cases that involve satire or historical references, no discussion of the studios that developed the games she's critiquing. Argument of "playing games that depict women this way makes the player view them more negatively" with no citation, the logical fallacy of which is easily seen by replacing "women" with "guns"/"violence", or "playing games" with "watching porn".
That isn't to say that some of the games she discusses aren't guilty of some poor or offensive design decisions, but there is a lack of exploration of the developer/publisher culture that produces these games and whether this ties into a larger cultural framework that includes movies, music, and pop culture.
At this point we're all rehashing the same stuff that's been said over and over in this thread already. It'll be 2016 and this thread will get still be getting resurrected from the dead when she's still releasing more of this series.
She never offers anything of value as an alternative, and her points are vague and stretching in some cases.
Stripclubs in games lik GTA5 and such? Yeah...and? They exist, I wont say every stripper is happy with their life decisions, but I really see nothing wrong with stripping for money. Same thing as webcam models.
Watchdogs had a sex trafficking portion..so yeah there were women on display but one of your fellow "hackers" is a bad ass chick who seems more then capable and far FAR FUCKING FAAAAAAR more likeable to me then Aiden Pierce. Dishonored was a society that functioned under an Empress, while she was killed and you play as a man, 2 of the strongest characters are Callista and the batshit insane Granny. (Havn't finished the game so not sure what comes about with her). Farcry 3, the town has hookers who come onto you..yup..and the major rebel faction is led by a WOMAN who uses YOU the male character to get her way.
Mass Effect, strip club in a seedy bar in the seedy place of the Galaxy. Did the citadel have a strip club? Not to mention that female shepard, though not shown much in the trailers until ME3, was the better received version then male shepard by a lot of people. Asari councilor is an empowered woman, Liara/Tali/Kasumi/Miranda/Jack/Ashley.
God dayum mer goin to town.
The thing about Anita is she bends 'evidence' to her points and ignores everything to the contrary. That isn't debating. That's plugging your ears and going "LALALALALA I CAN'T HEAR YOU".
Bitch needs to leave.
Yeh that's my annoyance. They're not willing to debate/discuss openly or civilly (disregarding the trolls threatening her). A recent video I watched about someone's beef with transgenders (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZLEd5e8-LaE ; I did a search on BG quickly and didn't see it posted) highlights the same point in that anyone belonging in a particular group will make statements but refuse to discuss them with anyone else because they're not from such a group. Or even if you were from X group, if you object to what they believe in, they'll also shut you out.
Can't win
EDIT: Top Gear exclusively puts women, especially good looking ones, in the background during the news segments. Could that classify as decoration? Jeremy says otherwise it's just ugly men (whom probably have a genuine interest in cars in general) who turn up, and people won't want to look at that lol![]()
