I don't agree with that. A good game is nice but a good game that also represents you is even better.

This. People say stuff like:

When you think of good games you remember fondly, you remember everything about the game and not just "I liked it because the main character looked like me!".

And it just seems really silly to me. No one is saying that. A good game can be good and enjoyable no matter who the characters are, whatever their gender, race, sexuality, or anything else.

But it absolutely matters. Maybe not in every game, and maybe not much, but it can definitely make a difference. Particularly in games where these things play a big role, where relationships, or the personality of a character is a big part of the story, it can be much harder to enjoy the game when you cannot relate to them. Having a marriage system that doesn't support gay marriage, for example, is a pretty obvious thing that will turn off a lot of people. Sometimes it's not just a minor thing. Perhaps the game can still be incredibly enjoyable, for but those people, it just won't be as good as it could have been. Same thing goes for games that closely follow the story of a main character. If the player cannot relate to that character because they are nothing alike, including gender, then it makes it harder to enjoy the game. That doesn't mean it's impossible, or even that hard, but it can absolutely make it harder. Obviously how much will depend on a number of factors, including the individual person, and the type of game (for a typical fps game, it probably doesn't matter at all, but for something like say, tomodachi life, a lack of gay marriage can easily be a deal breaker).

A great game can be great regardless of these things, and having a character you can relate to won't make a bad game good, but these things do matter. It's part of "everything about the game".

I agree with you on this. As much as i enjoy the harvest moon and rune factory games, relationships and marriage are a huge part of both games, and not being able to marry another guy definitely detracts a lot of the fun of it from me when my only options are being a guy myself and staying solo, or being stuck with a girl. (rune factory 4 did get around this ::slightly:: by letting you apply a costume to yourself to be almost any character you wanted, even if it was the opposite sex, but you still kept your original portrait and voice acting, so it was hardly perfect. And also all the eligible guys are total underage bishies instead of sexier characters like Bado, but that's a different complaint. q.q )

I can see that the logs show her admitting to cheating on her ex, but i hear people saying she slept with someone from kotaku for good reviews and slept with other game developers for access, but i didn't see her admitting to that in the logs the ex posted. Where are people getting the evidence for that?

The know your meme page can pretty much answer all your questions but I'll try and do a tl;dr version of EVERYTHING.

She had her game Depression Quest on greenlight which was getting shit attention. Zoe then goes on twitter and starts to complain about harrassment and sexism and getting rape threats etc. Which alerts every facet of video game feminism out there and people flock to her. The supposed culprits of this trolling was a man-only image board known as wizardchan. It was TWO people in their image board who had one conversation about her. It wasn't some huge hot topic they had, just a teeny-shmidge. So, the Wizardchan people get called rapists etc etc all the while, they defended themselves with opposing screencaps suggesting the initial harrassment was a hoax created by Zoe herself.

which, then bleeds into the next thing she did. She gets contacted by a Game Jam thing along with other female game devs. This game jam wants ONLY woman devs to send them their ideas and they will completely make the damn game for them. The public will vote on which game they want made and whoever wins gets their game and pretty much a foot in the door of the gaming community. Pretty neat, right? Nope. Zoe and other feminist chicks freak out and accuse the company of exploiting woman for money. (again, this can be found in the know your meme page. The Game Jam that got shat on is the one I linked in the last page)She shits on em and it keeps pegged down. No news journalist will talk about the Game Jam because little miss Zoe had planned one herself... or ... something. So, in order for her to have a monopoly on the attention she bullshit outrage. To get even more attention to the Game Jam she was participating in, she fucked the kotaku dude and the other game journalists and the while in a "committed" relationship with the fellow that made the huge post. She admits to fucking the 5 guys. A few of which wrote articles about her during her fucktrips with em. Liiiitttleee suspicious.
