Anyways, that plus the fact SJW war has been raging this year is why the hate is piling on.
And it's crossing with the whole dissatisfaction with shoddy/underhanded VG journalism, and that hopes were high for the indie scene to be better than the big publisher world.

So, the tempest in a teapot is boiling over. Not the greatest casus belli, but it was enough.

I think it's related to the internet killing old school reporting. Online news, gaming or otherwise, needs you to click on things. Integrity doesn't generate ad revenue the way sensational headlines do. I think once you head down that rode things like cronyism and quid pro quo start to become common place.

I'm obviously one of the people who says this is a non-issue, but I also agree. I really don't know why this has blown up as much as it has. It's not very interesting.
