2014 could still suck balls for the Flyers, assuming Hartnell gets paid after this season. Only big thing really coming off the books would be Timmonen and Pronger on LTIR. But I still think Couterier, B. Schenn and Giroux will add up to a ton, especially if other teams just high-ball offer sheet them.

No words for my face when Twitter refreshed and I saw "...Preds match..." One of the greatest hockey highs for me in recent memory, as good as beating the Ducks to go to the second round for the first time. I had to leave my office and walk around outside. I cannot stop drinking Flyers fans' tears on HFBoards.

Like Jornna said, I do not understand the rebuilding talk. We are the same exact team we were last year pre-deadline minus Suter...and that team was like the 6th best in the NHL. Suter is important, but it's not like we're bottom feeders now. Craig Smith and Colin Wilson are deceptively good and Josi and Ellis are two of the top young blue liners in the NHL. Klein is solid and Gill is steady with good PK skills. We're not going to shoot the lights out, but outside of 2007, we never have.

And it is highly unlikely we ever trade Weber because of how Holmgren structured the deal. We are paying $27mm in the first 340 days. Why trade him after the one-year threshold passes when you've already footed 20% of the aggregate contract proceeds. It would take an absurd absurd offer from a team like VAN, EDM, or PHI (if Poile hasn't already blocked Homer's number) to move him. Pre-match you were looking at a confirmed package from PHI of Mezaros, Read, 1st, 2nd, 3rd. Now with him locked until 2096? It would be something like Couts, Schenn, 1st; possibly more.

So so so so so amped. Riding a super high right now.

Looking at the Columbus roster/system depth, the team actually is in a better position for long term success than it was at any point the past few years...

Except Vinny Prospal (37) and Derek Mackenzie (31), their entire forward core is 30 or younger and includes a lot of young guys with room to flourish in their development still.

Derrick Brassard's development, I still maintain to this day, was fucked up and mismanaged by Columbus, but hes someone every team would welcome in a 2C or 3C role (unless you're like SJ with the Joes, LA with Kopi/Richards/Stoll, or PIT with your centers). Ryan Johanesen is gonna be a 30 goal scorer and did very well last year picking up 21 points in 67 games at only 19 years old - Oh, and even better, he somehow managed to play an Evenish -2 for the year in that abysmal rat's nest. With Nick Foligno, Dubinsky, Mark Letestu, and Artem Anisimov all coming in the past year, they're a team that screams plenty of 2nd/3rd line players, and they just need a superstar or two for their first line.

The D is a well covered topic with Wisneiwski, Jack Johnson, and super prospects Erixon and Murray.

The goaltending they got 3 mediocre goalies in York, Mason, and Bobrovsky, and with that clusterfuck, surely one of them from the competition will raise to an acceptable (although likely never stellar level).

By no means will they compete for a playoff spot next year, and probably not the year after, but 3 years from now I see it happening. After all, they'll most likely be picking 3 times in the first 35 picks next June.
