Is Paul Martin still a penguin?
I'd say fatty, but if he can match or exceed his numbers from last season, I'll keep signing him to 1 year.
DAN CLEARY GET THE FUCK OUT
Also maybe Quincey.
Also in World Junior news:
Canada just got their shit handed to them with a stacked roster where several guys should have been playing in the NHL.
I think people need to understand how absolutely devastating this is for Hockey Canada - in past lockout/strike years, Canada has destroyed the opposition in this tournament. And to see this happen, in the semis of all places, is so ridiculously embarrassing as to be implausible. But here we are.![]()
Oilers 2 buyouts:
Hemsky / Horcoff.
Seriously.
Flames buyouts:
J-Bo and Matt Stajan, no brainers there.
WJC scoring leaders by the way:
1. The Nudge (Edm) 11pts
2. John Gaudreau (Cgy) 9pts
3. Marcus Grandlund (Cgy) 9pts
4. Nikita Kucherov (TBL) 8pts
5. Marko Dano (Undrafted) 8pts.
(a couple more at 8pts)
My point? Calgary actually has some pretty good under the radar prospects! And considering Iggy is gonna get traded soon and Kipper is gonna retire, I feel much more at ease knowing the team has a future.
As long as Feaster's there, he'd never move Iggy. Even if Edmonton called up like "Can I interest you in Taylor Hall, Nuge, Eberle, Yakupov, Schultz, and our next 50 1st round picks for Jarome?"
That being said, Edmonton wouldn't surprise me if they were like "We used our 2 buyouts on Horcoff and Eberle. But we signed Horcoff to a DiPietro-shattering 45 decade contract to be our fearless, Sloth clone. I mean leader. Yeah.. leader."
I disagree entirely. Next year when we have a full season, if we're not in a playoff position near the trade deadline, we're gonna move Iggy, 100% certain on this. Only way he'd resign and finish his career in Calgary is if we made the playoffs and won him his very much deserved Stanley Cup. I'm not saying he'll demand to get traded, but for an aging superstar who has carried this team on his back for how many years now, trading him to a contender is the least we can do if we can't win him a cup ourselves.
And if/when we trade him, if even 1 fan in Calgary boo'd him or thought bad of him, they would be beaten mercilessly. If there's any player in the league at that age and with that kind of career that deserves a cup at this point, it's Iggy. And I'd love for him to win one with the Flames and retire with us. But who knows what the odds of that happening are. The parity in the league was so good the last couple years, picking a sure-fire winner has been near-impossible. Chicago was probably the last one a couple years ago. And before that, the 02 Wings and the 01 Avs were probably the closest teams to guaranteed wins
lol @ the Preds buying anyone out
And Dreger just changed his Twitter profile to a #dregerface shoop
But every year since 2004 and losing to Tampa Bay it's been the "Where's Iggy going?" watch. And I think he totally deserves a Ray Bourque type deal. Get traded to a winner, but be a forever-Flame. (Bruin in Bourque's case, but you know what I mean.)
But every year that gets hyped, and then every year around trade deadline, the Flames are 2~3 points back, but making a push for that stellar 8th seed. And not saying Cinderella isn't possible, but you know what I mean. Don't keep him around for a "what if?", when there's always a powerhouse with a better shot of winning. But every year so far, they've kept him around, and deny trade requests from Iginla's camp, or deny any trade talk whatsoever.
But at this point, Feaster should be hated more if he doesn't deal him. Forget facing the flak of no more "You can find me at the Dome, chillin with Jarome." anymore. He should be scrutinized more at this point for not getting him a legit chance at a Stanley Cup.
On that note, I worked with a Flames fan who absolutely loved that song. Like wtf.
I fucking hate that song, lol.
But yeah, I 100% understand what you mean. What makes me think this year is different is because of 2 specific things. 1)His age, he doesn't have many good years of hockey left. I think he's turning 36 this year. And 2)His contract is on it's last year. He was signed for the last 7, so not trading him wasn't really too much of a gamble. This year however, if we near the trade deadline and manage to get a deal in place where we send off Iggy to a contender in exchange for a couple 1st round picks and maybe a good prospect or young player, I can totally see Feaster pulling the trigger.
The only alternatives to that are that we don't trade him near the deadline and a few things could possibly happen. A)We make the playoffs and actually win -> We resign him and he's a Flames lifer. B)We make the playoffs but don't win/We don't make the playoffs and in the off season -> trade him to another team so they have a chance to resign him before any other team while we manage to actually get something for him as well. C)We don't win/make the playoffs and we don't trade him -> we lose him and gain nothing in return on July 1st to free agency. And D) (This one is the least likely as far as I'm concerned) We don't win/make the playoffs -> he miraculously signs an extension with us.
From a GM point of view, C is clearly the worst option. D is nice because we get a selfless player who is a superstar and is committed to winning with the team, and B is the most logical and likely move to happen. A being absolutely fan-fucking-tastic of course, lol.
Edit: Trading him at the trade deadline to a contender vs trading him in the off season for a chance to resign will also give him much better trade value as well
LOLOL oh man, that song is so bad. I'm sorry for bringing it up, but it totally popped into my head, and I've hated myself since.
I remember 4 or 5 years ago (give or take) they all had mohawks on the team, or a bunch of them did for the playoffs. He (the Flames fan I worked with.) was drunk as shit, and totally got all belligerent with his wife like "Shave my fucking head! I wanna be like the Flames!", so out of fear she did, and the next day he woke up like "O....M....G... wtf." and had to go into work right away.
I'm not saying you won't end up with a future gem for him, that would be super ideal. Gotta remember, he was once a 20-year old prospect traded from Dallas to Calgary for Nieuwendyk, and the Flames were questioned for that then.
Pretty sad when a lack of hockey takes all the fun out of a Flames/Oilers rivalry. Even if it's just jabs back and forth on here. haha
I wish I had a rival![]()
...San Jose? LA vs NYR westcoast vs eastcoast? Um.... Anaheim? Those would work, wouldn't they?
