I didn't watch the game. Started a new job on the 2nd, and figured sleep would be a better idea.
But when my GF and I woke up to the alarm / radio and heard, it was in instant downer, but then a "Thankfully I didn't wake up for that shit." thought.

Was that when he almost signed with us/we almost traded for him? I only vaguely remember it lol.
I had to work this morning. I should have been in bed around midnight, but when 1am hit and the game started, my "why the fuck not" mentality kicked in
Edit: I'm retarded, you were talking to Jornna about Ryan Smyth. You should burn him about how they took Penner off your ha.... right.
2 time cup champion Dustin Penner and Colin Fraser!
Anaheim is a good rival for us but its not as god as it could be due to never facing them in the playoffs. If that ever happens though, it should be an epic series.
I grew up with the Kings rivals being the Oilers, Flames and Canucks because of the Smythe Division.
Oilers and Flames have really died off. Vancouver is starting to get there again after facing each other twice in the last 3 years. Though I don't think Vancouver really sees us as a rival.
There is like, nothing between the Sharks and Kings. Even with the playoff seasons 2 years ago. Not really sure why.
Penner was actually pretty reliable during the run last year. He had some timely goals lol.
I think the lack of major playoff runs makes Calgary and Edmonton rivalries lessen. Even between each other, it doesn't feel as ruthless as it used to. That being said, I haven't lived in Calgary in 4 years, so that might be why it's weakened for me.
And I don't get San Jose and LA not having a rivalry. Maybe it's the long drive between the two cities and the general lack of hockey interest in California?
It might be the distance. They have always just been the little brother really. Even though they had been better than us for awhile. Honestly I think its also Sharks fans are just really nice any time ive met them.
I think the players do have a bit of a rivalry though after that playoff series, the home and home at the end of the season, and the whole Ryan Clowe stick gate thing.
I never got to experience the craziness of the 80's / early 90's Flames/Oilers rivalry. Growing up, I was always a Habs fan (Patrick Roy, Stephane Richer) and we were posted overseas from 1988-1993. Moved to Edmonton area in 1993, and everyone was still so obsessed with the old Oilers, that I hated them. "Arnott is gonna be the next Gretzky!", "Jason Bonsignore is gonna be an all-star forward!" mentality. Yeahhhhh, no. Eventually Smytty's mullet won me over, and I've been more and more of an Oilers fan as the glory years got further and further behind. Though for the past few years I've been completely pro-Oilers. Sure they're finishing in the basement, but it's fun to watch. Kids making mistakes and getting burnt is alot more fun than watching your team lose because they're fucking awful.
But aside from the Alberta rivalry thing, Oilers/Flames just doesn't seem to be like it was. But it's not like it was 2 powerhouse teams competing like it was. The thing people forget, is while the Oilers were loaded with Gretz, Messier, Kurri, Coffey, and Anderson, the Flames weren't that far off with MacInnis, Fleury, Suter, Nieuwendyk, and Roberts. (Joel Otto, Hakan Loob and Mike Vernon in his prime as well.)
80s and 90s was always the fucking Flames and Oilers winning the division which means the Kings always had to face at least one of them in the first round.
It was pretty much the Oilers or Flames 1/2, and then the Canucks and Kings, lol.
Oh? You managed to upset the Oilers in the first round? Grats, here are the Flames!
Yeah, the Flames were actually an amazing team in the 80's that could have won a few cups. The only thing though was that the Oil were a dynasty team and just that much better. And then you have Gretzky getting traded to the Kings and the Oil winning 1 more cup without him, I'm sure that just added fuel to the LA vs Edm rivalry.
Remember this rivalry in the last 90's/early 2000's:
Some seriously amazing hockey and fierce fierce competition
Yes @ COL v DET. The Shanahan leap into Roy as he charges the fracas is the greatest fucking thing in all the worlds everywhere, ever. (@2:36 of Vaspinne's video)
Wings/Avs was some Hattfields & McCoys shit, I'm amazed noone ever died in one of those games
Roy was the shit lol, he fought 3 different Wings goalie!
got my alarm set for 6am tomorrow, I may have a new channel in place but assuming I don't sleep through my alarms the SC will be showing the gold medal game
Commence the trolling!

I think rather than starting a new channel(some of you may recall that due to iOS jtv app a lot of people were able to get around my channel password) I'll keep the channel as is, but us BG folk can ignore the jtv chat and utilize something else like Skype.
I wonder why. I don't think the Kings and Stars have any real history between them. Even the Kings and Northstars.
It's so fucked up that the Sharks have spent pretty much their entire two decades as the best of the three teams and are the only one without a Cup lol
