So it's 2am on the west coast, AKA 5am on the east coast and the 2 sides are STILL TALKING! All the good insiders on twitter are saying things are looking and sounding positive, but with a lot of cautious optimism. Bob Mackenzie thinks both sides are going to stay together until a deal comes together or until they hit a snag. Let's hope it's the former and not the latter
Pierre LeBrun @Real_ESPNLeBrun
Told deal is "real close" - source
Edit: Why are none of you awake? What, do you have jobs or lives or something?
Update:
Pierre LeBrun @Real_ESPNLeBrun
A tentative agreement has been reached between NHL and NHLPA - source
Bob McKenzie @TSNBobMcKenzie
Lockout is tentatively over.
It's over!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Holy fuck, finally!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Edit: Confirmed by both sides according to TSN
Edit2: Both sides being NHL and NHLPA
Edit3: Still gonna take a day or 2 to figure out how much of a schedule we'll be having and an official start date. Probably going to be a 48 or 50 game season starting around mid-Jan and playoffs finishing late June. And the deal is "tentative" at the moment, but all that means according to the insiders is that a deal is essentially in place, they just need to bring in the lawyers and sign the paperwork
Edit4: According to Bob Mackenzie, new CBA is 10 year with an optional opt out after 8.
Yay, another thing to bring me angst during spring semester
OH GOD IT MIGHT BE OVER
I happen to be awake and browsing the forums.. please let this be true.
Some more details:
Katie Strang @KatieStrangESPN
#CBA Can confirm following terms: 10-yr deal with opt-out after 8 yrs, 7-yr contract term limits (8 to re-sign) and '13-14 cap of $64.3 m
Can anyone provide a TSN stream? There's literally nothing to watch in the US regarding hockey.
Looking for one, will post it if I find one
FUCK YEAH!
well, this is something to come home to
Yeah, I can't find one =/. You're not missing much though, all the info available is on twitter already. They're only discussing hypotheticals and if Gary Bettman will have a job in 10 years and stuff like that.
Bettman and Fehr TOGETHER having a press conference RIGHT NOW, confirming everything!
Hilarious:
Bettman "We're not gonna be taking questions"
Media "We're gonna ask anyway" before asking how they're gonna make this up to the fans, lol
Neither Bettman nor Fehr gave an answer but eluded to having more info later today, haha
Edit: Nothing else is gonna be shared at this hour. We won't get new information until later day at the earliest. I'm finally going to bed lol
Thank god we don't have to look at these two shitheads anymore.
the most important question, though, is free center ice?!
If they want to try and start winning some fans back, that shit better be free
i figure u all follow him, but anyway:
Pierre LeBrun @Real_ESPNLeBrun
-Season start still to be determined - league source
-Further to @aaronward_nhl reporting Year 2 cap at $64.3 M, I can add that Year 2 floor will be $44 M
-Player contract term limit at 7 years (8 years for your own player).
Hoooly shiiiit
Yeah I lied, still wide awake. Big change that's kinda interesting:
Darren Dreger @DarrenDreger
Draft lottery will change. All 14 teams fully eligible for 1st pick overall. Weighting system may remain, but 4-move restriction out.
Also, NHL most likely to participate in 2014 in Russia and training camp starting possibly as early as Wednesday
Edit: Shanahammer still in charge of discipline, with Bettman for appeals and a third party for suspensions bigger then 5 games
