I hope the Pens sign him for 7,000,000.1
Don't know a ton about draftees outside the top 20 but from reading up on some of the guys the Caps got, it looks like GMGM is trying to get us bigger and tougher. Forsberg and Wilson are both PWF types. Forsberg was a huge steal at 11 imo, only dropped because he is staying in SWE for another year but said he does want to come to the NHL after, which is fine since he only turns 18 in 2 months. Wilson looks like a reach/risk pick and will either be a 3/4 line grinder/fighter or a 1/2 line Lucic type(hopefully he has the scoring touch, big hits and grit w/o the PURE ASSHOLE). Late picks Rissling, a big 6'4" Dman, and Barber is referred to as a gritty sniper.
Stephenson is apparently crazy fast and I hope Christian Djoos ends up making the team some day simply so I can shout THE DJOOS IS LOOSE!
Caps picked up 4 US players.
Now hopefully GMGM can somehow trick a team into taking Ward and Schutlz and get us another Top 6 Forward or Top 4 Dman. Forsberg and Ribero alone made for what looks to be a very nice draft day though and good start to the offseason.
Weber was awarded that through arbitration as an RFA. Karlsson signed that contract before he was a Norris winner, and was also an RFA (I leave out the fact that it is a long term contract because he is young enough for it to not matter). Chara's contract takes him through age 42, a "retirement" contract that has a declining salary in the later years of the contract.
Suter is probably viewed as one step beneath those 3 players, but has the advantage of being a UFA, and being ridiculously coveted due to the fact that he is by far the best defenseman on the UFA market this offseason. If he signs a 1-3 year deal I would be shocked if it is under 7m, and I would expect any medium term deals to be in the 6-7m range. I could see a retirement contract (which would be in the 13 year range) going as low as 5m, but more likely around 6m.

Monster? We signed the monster?
Welp, there goes the season.

Your logic is sound, but people get irrational after July 1 when it comes to blue chip defensemen. I think he gets $6.5-7.0m, but I wouldn't be surprised to see $7.5. Fans of the Flyers (not going there for personal reasons anyways) and Red Wings would love to have him for 7 years at $7.5; some even are fine with $8.0. Then again, they aren't GMs.
We'll see; would love to get him back. If he doesn't re-sign with the Preds, I think he goes to DET or MIN.
Van rym dike(whatever) to Toronto for Luke shenn
Burke loves his Americans
This offseason is scaring me. The Rangers biggest threats in the conference are getting better and we have done nothing as of yet.
Washington Philly and Pitt have already improved.
Pittsburgh hasn't improved yet. If anything, we've gotten worse, but it's setting us up for July 1. We'll get better then.
On paper the other teams in the atlantic have improved. I believe though team chemistry plays a part and with the rangers not doing too much yet i think they're ok for now.
Pens got a lot more organizational depth but have not improved their active roster, like Ivaden said.
They've put themselves in the position to make an impact move(s) during free agency though. Suter, Parise, and Semin aren't the only players that will make teams better.
Gomez will too
Sounds like Luongo is likely to go to Florida or Toronto (lol). It was rumoured that Schenn was what was being offered for Luongo in Toronto, if he's gone now I wonder if it's all up to Florida now. Personally I think Gillis is dragging it out and demanding more then a reasonable return because he's stalling until Schneider gets signed.
Florida doesn't seem like they'll bite. Too long of a contract with Markstrom ready to take over.
Lots of people saying luongo won't make it to the Canucks training camp
