Yea personally I'm scared considering Lehtonen is a UFA next year. With Campbell comping through the pipes we can't really give Kari a 5-6 year deal with his injury history, but he'd easily get that on the open market.

Yes, but if you exceed the max in baseball, you just get fined money that gets put into the revenue sharing pool to get spread to other teams, so you can just keep throwing money at it to make it a non-issue.

Cap hit is value of the whole deal divided by amount of years. So if a player makes $4mil a year in actual play, for 7 years, but has a $7 million dollar signing bonus,

It'd be (4x7+7)/7yrs, or 35/7 -> 5mil a year cap hit even though hes being paid for 4mil a year.
