No one on the Kings has a NTC/NMC. I thought Carter and Richards did but looks like when they got traded here, it might have been waived.

I believe both have NTC/NMCs that kick in after X years; I know for sure Richards didn't have to waive one cause he has repeatedly said he was so blindsided by the trade he was bouncing between edge of tears devestation and fits of rage for the first 24-48 hours after getting the news suddenly and Carter too I believe was also a non-waive thing, but I do recall hearing Carter for sure has one that activates after a certain length of time.

Yeah I think anyone would block a trade to columbus if they had the chance.

Carter's didn't activate until July 1st of that year IIRC. Basically he was traded 8 days before his NTC kicked in.

With Richards I believe it was a similar situation. When extending an RFA contract, NTC's can't be put in until UFA year ranges I believe. I may be wrong, but I think Carter was traded slightly before he hit that age where his NTC kicked in.

Carle to the Lightning... would have liked him on the Wings but not a gigantic loss, and it saves Holland from overpaying.

But it brings us one step closer to the inevitable terrible trade.

Also so many defenseman getting about $1m more than they should in a standard market, nice year to be a UFA for them!

Going to be interesting to see what Shero has up his sleeve at this point. With the major UFA defensemen already signed his only real options are trades or picking up has beens that may work in the system which is a pretty big risk. I wouldn't be surprised to see him stand pat and let the youngsters duke it out for roster spots. I still wouldn't be opposed to moving Paul Martin even with the fact the Pens didn't pick up anyone to replace Michalek. I wouldn't mind seeing Morrow, Despres, and Harrington up with the big club this season. But realistically Despres is the only day one starter. Morrow may work his way into the lineup later in the season. And Harrington probably needs another year to fill out a bit more. Of the three of them the Pens desperately need Harrington to pan out the most. He's one of the only high potential stay at home d prospects the Pens have.

I read something yesterday with Shero's typical "we're content with the team we have now moving forward" nonsense that he likes to spout. I don't understand though, we got a lot worse than we were last year with the subtractions of Staal and Michalek. I was never high on Staal but I could admit he was good for the team, and although I'm assuming Sutter is a "true" third center, if anything happens to either Crosby or Malkin, I don't see Sutter being able to step up like Staal did. Shero is apparently expecting Martin to have a bounce back year and I hope so too, but I'm not going to get my hopes up.

Really, the only significant signings we've accomplished are Glass and Vokoun. Glass will at least give our fourth line some size that it desperately needs, and Vokoun isn't Johnson. Beyond that, we've done nothing important. WBS is stacked now though... Calder Cup year baby, yeah!

I would expect that unless a move is made either Kennedy or Tangradi will compete for a slot on Crosby's line. I would greatly prefer Tangradi IF he finally learns to use his size to be the net front presence the team needs. He has infinitely more upside than Kennedy. But he's also starting to approach that bust prospect level. Hell I wouldn't mind seeing them give Dustin Jeffrey a chance with Crosby. The issue they're going to have is the same issue as last year. Defense. Michalek was decent for the Pens, but he never fit into their style of play. Martin is a train wreck. Niskanen fits in well. I would love it if they made a move for Yandle or someone along those lines. Carle would have been a decent fit but they weren't going to give him that kind of money.

Martin really benefited from Brodeur playing the puck as well as he does. I'm not sure what Martin is more afraid of, the boards themselves or actually getting hit. If Fleury could work on his puck moving play, I think we might see Martin start to play like a 5M defender. I actually think Michalek fit really well on our team in the same way Scuderi did (I realize when Scuderi was here it was a different system though, but they are in the same mold of player at their best). Michalek just stopped blocking shots for whatever reason and he didn't have much use outside of that.

Martin is obvious, but I'm really hoping and needing Orpik to get back to form. The focus was always on Martin but in my opinion, Orpik was as much of a letdown as PM. Orpik was bad last season the same way Luke Schenn is bad: sacrifices his necessary positioning to line up big hits, which while they get some oohs and ahhs, really hurts us in the end. Someone needs to remind the defense that it's okay to clear people from in front of Fleury, too.

And the Pens signed Philippe Dupuis to a one year deal. Depth forward, nothing more.

Jefferey's career might be over, he can't get his knee right. And Eric Tangradi can't skate to save his life, fucking Bertuzzi and Holmstrom are better skaters than him.

That's a shame with Jeffrey. He showed that he could play and actually contribute up in the NHL. Tangradi doesn't need to skate to stand in front of the net.

Oh fuck. Boewmeester to Detroit...? Actually that wouldn't be terrible but he is overpaid as FUCK. If he could be had cheap that actually wouldn't be bad given the Wings have tons of space.

Overpaid but only for the next two years. Considering that Detroit is below the cap floor right now it wouldn't be a bad thing to get a guy like him.

You can have Martin if you'd like. The only thing we ask for is rights to publish your story about Lindback.

Nothing official on JayBo. Just spitballing

Saw on twitter that Carolina is done in the Nash fiasco because Howson wanted Jeff Skinner. I don't think Howson understands his situation right now. Rick Nash is not that good anymore, he may become a game breaker on another team but yikes if thats the kind of asking price Howson wants. I get it, the guy is the franchise player, but both the player and the franchise are damaged goods.

Hello BG. Oh what an interesting day. Props to the Wild for getting Parise / Suter. Eeven with these 2 great players, i still wonder if they'll even make the playoffs. I smell a Drury / Gomez shit storm if this team doesn't make an immediate impact. As stated before, past Suter there d-line is mediocre. Also, how well Suter will play without some dude named Weber with him. Parise is the star now, but no Brodeur to take the heat. Minnesota takes its hockey seriously and Parise could get ripped in the media. Oil ain't making strides yet, especially 1 injury of there top 6 to deflate there hype. All of there top 6 are tiny, and Hall is injury prone. NW just got interesting and the spot light won't be on the Canucks as much. Wooot.

My view of Shea Weber. He's coming home to Vancouver next season.
