Talking heads shit all over Semin but I don't think he deserves half of it. He's been a successful defensive player at times and really the only thing he needs to be great is more consistent effort and less stick penalties.

He hasn't signed yet because he doesn't have the contract he wants. Either more years or more dollars, no one is giving him exactly what he wants. He apparently has a 3 year/30 mil offer from a KHL club, so he probably wants at least 4 years from an NHL club at 6m+, given the other contracts given out this summer.

Rumors are the the Pens gave him a 4 year lowball offer (4.5mish?) although that is just a rumor. Other rumors say that Detroit and Jersey are the two teams "in the hunt" but I believe anyone who gives him 6m+ for 5 years+ is in the hunt.

If thats the kind of money he wants I see him going to the KHL. He's a good player but like you say takes some really dumb dumb stick penalties and has never really struck me as a dependable game changer. 6m+ for him nowadays seems way too high.

I would be happy with him for 6m over 4 years. It wouldn't be the best contract but it's not so bad that it would be unmovable, and he has a LOT of potential, especially playing along Datsyuk and if Babcock/everyone else can change his attitude a bit. 6.5m wouldn't kill me, but I would not like it combined with a term longer than 3 years.

I think we all expected more from a kid who scored a hatty in his NHL debut. He's improved but was really inconsistent this year. Just hope he doesn't go the way of Erik Christensen.

Fuck no to trading Stepan. He scored 50 points on an offensive anemic Rangers team at the age of 21. He's only going to get better, especially if he can improve his skating.

Plus what's the point of trading for another Winger without a real second line C? I'd rather have depth down the middle than depth at Wing. I'd much rather:

Kreider-Richards-Gaborik
Dubi/Hagelin - Stepan - Callahan

than:

Nash-Richards-Gaborik
Kreider-Anismov-Callahan

That second line is trash, and makes us a worse team. Also our only real top 6 Center is now a 32 year old Richards, with no forseeable top 6 C's in our prospect pool. No bueno.

Sather has said that he won't trade Kreider, McD, or Stepan in a package for Nash. And thank god for that.

It's one thing to do well at a college level, and then come into the playoffs as a relative unknown and put up points, but see how he does over a full season with players knowing who he is a bit better after the playoff magic. He could be John Druce/Fernando Pisani v2.0

Kreider has that OUT OF FUCKING NOWHERE speed burst that Gaborik used to have before his groin was held together by paper clips and chewing gum. Now does this mean he will develop into an elite sniper (he showed he had great shooting ability in the playoffs)? Who the fuck knows but I sure hope so.

^ This. Semin's always had good stats, fancy or otherwise, and the knock on his game is more of a knee-jerk reaction to the bad offensive zone penalties he has a habit of taking. Oh, and also he's Russian.

I'm guessing a lot of teams are in on him for a one- or two-year deal, but he's trying to use the KHL to get a longer term. At this point I would be pretty happy if he came back to the Caps on a 3 x 5.5 type of deal.

That's just it, I wasn't trying to troll or anything, it'd be great to see him continue where he left off, or have the same scoring touch he did in college. But it'll be a different story come the regular season if people are watching for him moreso.
It's fun during off-season to wonder how your team will do the following year: Will Ebs carry on into a 40-goal scorer? Will Hall not get some freak injury trying to play bigger than he is? Will RNH sophomore slump? Will Gagner beat Sittler's 10 point game? haha j/k j/k on the last one. I know when I get talking to my Dad about this upcoming season, it's like:
Me: "I really think this'll be the year they don't win the Draft Lottery..."
Him: "They're going nowhere with a roster of garden gnomes."
Me: "It's not that bad....k, so it is. But they're getting more exciting to watch."
Him: "They'll get crushed in the playoffs, especially in a Pittsburgh/Philly type series.... garden gnomes. It's not gonna work."

Or maybe he scored 50 points BECAUSE he was playing on an offensively average team (anemic is seriously a bunch of bullshit, you guys were in the top half of goals for in the league, stop acting like King was getting no offense help like Quick. Quick can say his team's offense was anemic) Just like TK scored 20+ and 50 points with 87 & 71 out. We should've jettisoned him then before people realized TK scored BECAUSE no one else was there.
