So 'achieve' as in 'fake something else'. It's no stretch to me just how much the engineering generation that gave us the Saturn V, SR-71, and the goddamn Space Shuttle (developed during Apollo, just didn't fly for ten goddamn years) shits on the recent generation that gave us total fiascos like the F-35 costing more than the F-22 in the end, nor that they could have pulled off going to the moon which is half a Taco Bell fart in the right direction once you're already in LEO.

Anyone who says the moon landing was faked has no concept of how batshit insane 1960s engineers were and what happens when you give them a budget.

I'd say they still did up through about 1982. Hell, the Space Shuttle was half developed on funding as a single-polar-orbit spying platform. I'm rather torn on which one actually takes more governmental competence: Going to the moon, or faking it. That's what tends to lose me on these conspiracies, because I still think it'd be harder to cover up for 50 years than to actually do.

It came out from one of the guys who worked on the project that the radiation in space fried the camera equipment so the entire thing had to be shot on a sound stage, but they did actually land on the moon. So it was both true and fake.

Here's why (amongst many other reasons), I have never bought the moon-landing-was-faked stuff...

The Russians at the time accepted it as true. If there was *ANY* chance that it was fake, the Russians would have lit that stuff up immediately. But they didn't. They just let us take the biggest victory since Berlin, without launching a mass campaign to show why it was faked. Even if you buy that the US government was able to quiet the thousands involved in such a conspiracy, how did they silence the Russians?
