I really enjoyed it. It was beautiful on the big (2D) screen. Apparently the 3D doesn't really add much. It gave me some things to think about, and did so in an engaging way. I didn't expect it to answer all my questions about the Alien mythos, but at the same time I think that if you haven't seen the Alien films you won't appreciate it as much as those who have. I'll be interested to see what the sequel brings.

I mean the fact that the chick runs around, hop, skipping, and jumping through the last half hour of the film after having dealt with serious surgery is also a big "wtf" for me. Sure, adrenaline can count for a lot but not quite that much. But I suspended disbelief and enjoyed it.

I threw this up to medical advances. You don't travel 2 lightyears or whatever without creating some amazing medicine.

At the time the facility would have been in operation, humans were by no means dangerous at least based on their technology and weaponry...arguably dangerous by their behavior but being judged by a race willing to exterminate another race, that probably wouldn't be the biggest of factors.

from red letter media and myself on shit that doesn't make any god damn sense:
Why did the scientists take their helmets off just because the air was breathable?

Why did the biologist want to run away when he finds an alien that has been dead for thousands of years? Shouldn't a psyche profile reveal that he is not ready for this mission? Shouldn't a scientist in the field of biology find this incredibly spectacular?

Why was the geologist ever selected for the mission? Shouldn't he have had some sort of psyche profile that told people that he didn't belong on this mission? They couldn't find a single other geologist to go off into space that wasn't mentally unstable/only in it for the money?

Why did the biologist who was previously afraid of any life forms feel like dicking around with the alien penis that came inside of his mouth?

How did the biologist/geologist manage to get lost when they were in being observed by a ship who had a 3D layout of the entire cavern? You'd think that 2 scientist could figure out the way they came in, but you'd think the people in the ship monitoring the team inside would be like hey tard asses you're going the wrong way.

Why did the black guy and then everyone think it was a weapons manufacturing plant? They assumed they were there because of an invitation that was drawn on cave walls, saw no weapons (just some mysterious black goo that coulda been alien jizz), no hostile creatures, and there wasn't even defensive measure in the place. Only David knew that the black goo was dangerous to humans. They found the two dead bodies in the room, but it's a pretty big leap to think that the black goo was the cause of it and not some unknown alien inhabitant on the planet.

If the black guy thought it was a weapons manufacturing plant why didn't they send any of the security guys with them on the next trip to the cavern?

Why did the engineers draw some cave maps to their weapons manufacturing planet?

Why did a group of people dedicate years of their lives to a mission that they knew nothing about until they were on the other side of the galaxy?

If the engineers created all life on earth, why do only humans share their DNA with the engineers?

Why would that one girl think that David had did something to kill her husband? You could say she sensed it in him that he did it, but as we were constantly reminded in that movie just in case we forgot, David doesn't have emotions. Also, she had no real reason to suspect fowl play. If someone appears to be super sick after just being exposed to an alien atmosphere, you'd probably think super alien flu over the robot with no emotions or the ability to have hatred probably killed him somehow.

But in the case of the worm, it was never shown that it impregnated the biologist. In fact, i think they mentioned that it ate his insides.

Just a theory, but there was nothing stopping the worm from laying eggs in him. For all we know the larvae could have eaten the shit out of him.

    2. Yes, they weren't a threat, which is why they willingly showed humans where they were, the reason the big bad engineer that gets woken up from an eternal slumber goes apeshit is because he realized that they were getting too advanced and were now a threat.

    3. A poor plot device. Nothing more, nothing less, and curiousity and because everyone trusts the android. It didn't make sense to me either, what if you walk into an area with no atmosphere? Not to mention carrying the fucking things instead of just wearing them.

    4. I answered this in the prometheus thread, but here's the gist: Alien that is visually threatening, humanoid. deviod of life vs. a small living snake-like creature. It makes sense in my mind to be afraid of something much more intelligent than us, and to be intrigued by a smaller form of life.

    5. None of them knew what the mission entailed before leaving. The only selling point WAS money. Going into space also isn't exactly the most mentally predictable thing. There's no telling how people would react without putting them into that situation. Also, Dr. Weyland don't give a shit, he just needs a few people to find something important that can extend his life and tell him it's not life threatening.

    6. Poor plot device, they also panicked.

    7. As far as the weapons stuff, you're going to have to remind me exactly the situation that they came to this conclusion because I forgot/didn't think it was significant, only that they came to this conclusion was significant.

    8. Magic trick for prehistoric, non-life threatening man. This isn't as if it's their home planet or anything, not to mention this is over 2000 years prior, they probably would have been long gone by then if things went smoothly.

    9. I think the point is that our DNA is made up of the same stuff (Nucleic Acids, sugars, phosphate, etc etc.). The odds that an entirely different form of life uses the same chemical components in their genetic structure is likely ridiculous.

    10. Iirc, she doesn't suspect anything until David brings it up to her near the end, or you know the whole him knowing full well about that alien baby inside her, combined with Dr. Weyland actually being alive.

I was trying to link it all down to one common thing that fits everything that occurred, which is that it is evolution goop. The worm was just an advanced earthworm that came into contact with it. It aids in breaking down and reforming DNA, but when consumed in a high amount, it caused the body (the "seeding" engineer) to break down. The only thing I have trouble with is how the hell that ginger guy came back to life as a super evil motherfucker.

Nobody knows why they wanted to exterminate humans. Everyone is playing the dangerous angle. NOBODY knows.

    Faith.

Why did the biologist want to run away when he finds an alien that has been dead for thousands of years? Shouldn't a psyche profile reveal that he is not ready for this mission? Shouldn't a scientist in the field of biology find this incredibly spectacular?
No psyche profile will prepare you for meeting your "maker".

Why was the geologist ever selected for the mission? Shouldn't he have had some sort of psyche profile that told people that he didn't belong on this mission? They couldn't find a single other geologist to go off into space that wasn't mentally unstable/only in it for the money?
The company that hired him is a company that is always out to make money. See Alien, that ship is transporting ore.

Why did the biologist who was previously afraid of any life forms feel like dicking around with the alien penis that came inside of his mouth?
Meeting your maker and meeting a critter are two different things.

How did the biologist/geologist manage to get lost when they were in being observed by a ship who had a 3D layout of the entire cavern? They had limited communication with the Prometheus. Also you assume the ship was just one big cavern.

Who knows? Why does it matter. Perhaps they reminded him of nuclear silos. I'm not sure how it matters at all. They point was to make sure the audience knew what it was.

    [/quote]
If the black guy thought it was a weapons manufacturing plant why didn't they send any of the security guys with them on the next trip to the cavern?
He was legitimately NOT in command. They did whatever the fuck they wanted. If there were security guys available they were with the team, as shown with the other guys being co-pilots.

Why did the engineers draw some cave maps to their weapons manufacturing planet?
Make up your own reason. We don't know. Might not have been an invitation. It might have been a warning.

Why did a group of people dedicate years of their lives to a mission that they knew nothing about until they were on the other side of the galaxy?
Money. Everyone has a price. Space mining and travel was already a thing.

If the engineers created all life on earth, why do only humans share their DNA with the engineers?
Humans were the end result. The means = not relevant.

Why would that one girl think that David had did something to kill her husband? You could say she sensed it in him that he did it, but as we were constantly reminded in that movie just in case we forgot, David doesn't have emotions. Also, she had no real reason to suspect fowl play.
