I try not to high-horse too much and I know I can be a dick. I just want people to see things from the other side. I know as well as most people do that sometimes, the police just plain suck but the incident ratio is so small that it burns me up when one moron does something stupid and it messes it up for the whole community. I'll be the first to admit I hate to deal with black people. My wife is black and I hate dealing with her attitude. Does that make me racist? But like most people, I learned very quickly when I was a rookie that all you have to do is treat people with respect. There's no better way to calm a fat black chick who just beat the shit out of her husband for domestic abuse than to say "Ma'am" or "Please". "Ma'am can you please stop hitting your husband with your shoe?" Works every time.

I guess it really just takes for someone to get used to culture. Tolerance starts with understanding and understanding leads to unity. Yes, it is quite a pain in the ass to deal with someone who says fuck every two seconds. But that's the way they are. I don't know this person. I wasn't there for their upbringing. Maybe their parents cussed a lot? Talk ghetto? Maybe they grew up in the ghetto. I quickly learned tolerance, empathy, and sympathy, along with good translation and body language helped me survive my first year of probation in a city where a cop is treated like an ordinary citizen and gets robbed, stabbed, shot, beaten, and killed just like an ordinary citizen. Then you get some fucking retard who hits a guy with a car and now cops are racist, undertrained and uneducated morons who are disposable soldiers and don't have feelings.

My issue with this is the shady police statement. They knew this could get out of hand if it got out, so they filed a bogus police statement. The man shouldn't have run, period, but I know how some of those cities are. Cops will stop black guys for just about anything if they aren't wearing a suit and tie, but to run away because you don't want to deal with the possible situation of a dirty cop badgering you is and was foolish. I'm just sorry it ended up the way it did; perhaps if he had only run into someone new knew or something, all of this could have worked itself out in the end.

Murder charges? No, but manslaughter charges? Why not? The officer clearly didn't mean to kill the kid (maybe block him, or knock him the fuck over, but not kill), but he still killed him, and that's still against the law. I don't see how criminal charges can't be brought up against him

No, I mean badgering, and seeking to arrest through any means possible. Its rare in NY for cops to just randomly start killing blacks, but its not rare to have them profile the shit out of them, stop them, and find any reason whatsoever to harass, and hopefully, to eventually arrest them.

I think it's more likely that the cop hit the kid with his car, fatally injuring him in the process, and lied on the police report saying the kid ran into the cop car than it is that the kid actually ran into the cop car, fatally injuring himself in the process.

I understand it's POSSIBLE that the kid ran into the side of the cop car, fatally injuring himself in the process, but it's not more likely.

The sketchy police report doesn't help, but there would have been no need for the report at all if the guy hadn't run.

The media frenzy around this is just another case of sensational reporting with little or no fact to back up the wild claims. Also, coattails of Trayvon Martin.

Very unlikely if he ran into the side of the cruiser. However, if he hit his head on the sidewalk on the way down after running into the cruiser than that could have killed him.

I'm curious as to the pictures posted earlier in the thread, with the large dent on side of the cruiser. Guy either ran into it, or got drilled by a officer making a turn?

Look, do I need to say the obvious? You know what he was. Those police were probably justified, so says the Fraternal Order of Police! But in all honesty, what the hell? I did...and it was hard to read through all the uh...lack of follow through and good reporting.

He may have had permission to take something like the pavers or maybe even the pavers in that photo. But the fact that he ran tells me otherwise. The fault for this incident doesn't go anywhere near racist cops. It was A: a fuck up on the cop's part in trying to stop the guy from running, and B: the guy trying to run in the first place that set this whole thing in motion.

Why did he run? Doesn't really matter. He ran and died because of it. End of story. Except that people can make money off the story now, so it keeps getting dragged on and on even though there is nothing really there.
