@Sept: Yeah, it's been ages, I just have a distinct memory of Phoenix being a jerkface for some reason, but I'm also completely irrational when it comes to hating and/or liking certain things. For instance: Ruszors and Wamouras. Godawful monsters, but aren't they so awesome?

I thought I had heard a rumour/translation from stream that the world would change as players did things in Adoulin? I wonder if this would be a sort phasing system and if FFXI could handle it. I had always written off the Far East based on the fact it'd have to have so many and/or options in dialogue. (Have you met Tenzen? Have you fought Tenzen? Are you and Tenzens now bros? Have you met Gessho? Are you and Gessho bros? Have you fought Gessho? Are you cool again with Gessho? Have you met Gessho and Tenzen? Have you fought Tenzen but not Gessho? etc) Since both in both ToAU & CoP we rather dramatically altered the way of things; for instance I'm fairly certain Nashmeira II asked for peace for the first time in forever after our grand foray into Aht Urghan and generally being badass and showing the world that the only thing you have to fear is two fucked up gods with who want to kill each other but it's np because we're the children of an even more fucked up goddess. (The Mikado turned her down though, I believe?) And in CoP obviously everything involving Tenzen.

Also, while on CoP, I can't remember what happened to the Emptiness post-Apocalypse Nigh? It still resides within all of us etc etc right right? Ugh, for the life of me I can't remember CoP which is a damn shame. I know the Far East is all fucked up with Emptiness, but I feel like the ending CS with Tenzen said something about its current state. I definitely thought we stopped the Emptiness flowing from the Mother Crystals and all that. (And did we ever get a reasonable explanation as why only the Far East and the Middle Lands had Emptiness? I'm guessing no.)

Why did I type any of this.

I think this image is supposed to depict the 7 native warlords in Ulbuka.. which are apparently found in monster lairs.

one of them is clearly identifiable as this bee they showed in the concept art
    http://andriasang.com/con1mk/ffxi_ad...24200/full.jpg

the others may not be as obvious, but you can make them out enough to figure out what family of monster they are.
theres a bird, a shark (aquan), a treelike thing (plantoid) and so on..

so my guess would be each warlord represents 1 monster type in the 2 natural ecosystems. ( beast / plantoid / vermin / aquan / avian / amorph / lizard )

.and that character on the bottom right is an adventurer.. probably the other job.

the other thing I noticed is that Rhazowa is mentioned in the new tales. Rhazowa is the northern continent.. so SoA might shed more light on the orcish/gigas lands as well.
Regarding that "Bird" in the concept art, there is only one thing I've been able to come up with as a possibility as to it's identity.

Quetzalcoatl, the Thunder Bird (GF from FF8 )

The reason that Tenzen tried to kill you on the airship battle was because Phoenix's plan was to sacrifice you to bring the lights back to the Al'Teau mothercrystal. Prish points out that Phoenix would never plan something so callus, that her plan was likely to sacrifice herself to resurrect you after the light was placed in the crystal. That is as close to being a dick as Phoenix got.

Found some JP pics of it with stats on the mob. Definitely looks like some kind of lightning bird.

So, is this how any of you expected the far west to look and feel? I was expecting like wide open plains, and bison, forests and deserts, etc. I'm not upset or anything just surprised it's markedly different. The style looks more like old norse classical Europe fantasy than anything. Even the guy speaking in the trailer (I guess?) is supposed to sound like old English. Something I couldn't help but notice; they kept telling us that Adoulin was a city closed off to the outside for 400 years by walling themselves in. And then they go and show these concept art pictures of a city completely on the sea free and open to the air, lol?

I mean I guess maybe it's a figurative "wall" but, just couldn't help but notice.

To be honest I don't really get any specific feel from what we saw in the trailer. The zones we were shown just look like variations on San D'Oria, Yuhtunga and Valkurm to me. I hope they don't go in the direction of a typical Western fantasy aesthetic - there's enough of that tired old rubbish around already.

I thought they walled themselves off from the rest of their own continent. Since it's all Wild mob controlled areas and shit. They've mentioned the north in the trailer, so maybe they trade with them a lot.

I'll say. But i get a sense of Skyrim-like norse/celtic feel from it. Skyrim is as cliche as it gets with the swords and dragons, but they did it so well and nailed the feeling so perfect the cliche didn't bother me. Maybe that's what they're going for.

South America folks. Colonization. Jungles. People walled off from the rest of the world (Except when they're exporting drugs). Yep.

Joking aside I thought this is what they were going for with this expansion - Vana'diel discovers the 'New World'. You have lush jungles, a city by the sea, mountainous steppes, snowy areas, vast resources, dangerous tribes surrounding you and recent contact with a far more developed European-themed Middle Lands. They even tossed in Rhazowa as a foreign land we know nothing about potentially having some stake in this entire affair.

It's time to decimate the native population, fight over territory, forcibly convert the population to the Dawn Goddess and turn the tribes of the region against each other for the glory of Bastok.

So something I was thinking about, is that there are good and bad aspects to the new "main" city Adoulin will bring. In the same way that Aht Urghan Whitegate was. There will probably be lots of lag, which sucks. But the community and shouts will be refocused again to one place, which is nice. Granted most shouts now are in mostly one place, but I suspect Adoulin will be the place to be and manage to snag everyone from the old cities.

i definitely see it happening. the game will likely be a lot more alive at that point, and most of it will be focused in the busier of the two town zones. yelling will probably ease some of that congestion.
i think anyone interested in older content like VW and Abyssea can still base themselves in Jeuno tho.

i'm really hoping Adoulin will be the hub that grows with the player.. like if you 'level up' the guilds enough they will give you better stuff... for eg. the exploration guild basically improves amenities you can receive at each outpost and you will be able to teleport to them from Adoulin once it has been set up and maintained.

i'm also hoping that there'll be some randomness to exploration elements like semi-randomized entrance locations to lairs and randomized lairs which are in the general vicinity of each outpost..

Yeah, the way it looks like they put lots of emphasis on "exploration" I have to wonder how they will go about it. The thing about "exploring" is that once you've done it once, you don't really need to do it again. So are they going to make it work to be rewarding and not a dull routine?

Something is just plain wrong with Aht Urghan lol, I think its all the NPC's and spots where you walk to for insta CS. If you have a mule on /follow they randomly stop lol. I hope the new city is as big as Aht Urghan though, I hate Jeuno.

I hope there are good reasons to be in either half of the city, rather than just 1 being the one where all activity and idling occurs.

yeah.. they really made that mistake in ToA, but then al zahbi was really just there for besieged. either you want to be there when it happens or you don't...

and thats also why they made all the important stuff appear in whitegate instead.
