Thank god.
Thank god.
So much for the "not a magic based job" as Camate had posted.
So basically the job is going to have two "stances" where certain runes will only be available under those stances. This could be interesting if you are allowed to change stances fairly quickly with low recast on the JA's, this could be similar to paradigm shift in FF13 where you can quickly change between offense and defense.
This could be really good if under the offensive stance you gain str/attack/m.attack and while under defensive you gain vit/defense/m. defense
With a variety of useful runes, this could be a very fun job to play
SE tends to shit things up that have Stances on the initial release. Usually they end up either makeing both stances shit, or one strong and the other totaly garbage :/.
Granted Stratagems are not stances, we all saw how that job went down the line. Then again their got their stances right on whm sam and nin. I think they tend to first make things a bit weaker to see where the players take the job and then fix the job via buffs/nerfs.
Activating them via ja does not preclude consumables. See quickdraw, bounty shot, shadowbind
Mythic GS really would be pretty broken.
This is the last time I try to use irony on the internet, I swear ;_;
Have a feeling their WS damage wont be high. Camate said they'd have higher damage potential than PLD but I think he was referring to their enspell/additional rune damage, not raw WS damage. If that's the case, their resolution spam won't be that strong(lack of hiuge att buffing abilities/souleater/etc) but yeah Mythic GS could potentially be nuts. Anyone wanna take a guess at their mythic weapon? I wanna say Defender since that's an iconic FF staple weapon but they already have it http://wiki.ffxiclopedia.org/wiki/Tutelary
P.S its annoying when they release iconic FF staple items but rename them to make them more 'unique'. For example Sanus Ensis and Adamas were definitely supposed to be Crystal gear which was always high level armor/weapons in old ff games but they renamed it to make it unique to ff. Tutlary was supposed to be 'Defender" but they renamed that too. Other examples are
Muramaseru=Muramasa
Radiant Lance=Longinus
Dragon's Whisker=Ryunohige
Amanomarakumo=Heaven's Cloud
Yoichinoyumi=Yoichi's Bow
Selene's Bow = Artemis Bow
Mjollnir = Thor's Hammer
Ruinous Omen = Dark Messenger
Earthen Fury= Gaia's Wrath
Tidal Wave= Tsunami
Shining Ruby= Ruby Light
Spirit Surge= Lancet/Dragon Sword
Tutelary=Defender/Defense Sword
Caldabolg = Ultima Weapon
Souleater=Darkness
Phalanx=Wall
Benediction=Pray
Blade Bash=Sword Slap
Boost=Accumulate
Call Beast=Call
Spontaneity= Double Cast
Third Eye= Reflex/Abandon
Sharpshot=Aim
Shikikoyo = Cheer
Gilfinder=Gil steal
there's many examples of renamed gear that in the JP version is a reference to FF lore but in the NA versions it's retranslated. Granted the translations are more accurate and true to the JP versions but still it takes away from the lore a bit.
Anyway back on topic, I wonder if they'll pick a weapon from FF lore or a weapon from real mythology for RNF mythic.
Clarent(The sword King Arthur pulls from the stone to become King of Britain)
Colada(Twin sword to Tizona, used by El-Cid)
*Dyrnwyn( the Sword of Rhydderch Hael)
Hrunting(Beowulf's blade)
Précieuse(Counterpart to Joyeuse)
Zomorrodnegar(Solomon's sword)
*This one would be super likely because according to lore:The whole "blaze with fire when held" would fit Rune Fencer's enspell/rune/enhancing theme.The Dyrnwyn ("White-Hilt") is said to be a powerful sword belonging to Rhydderch Hael,[3] one of the Three Generous Men of Britain mentioned in the Welsh Triads. When drawn by a worthy or well-born man, the entire blade would blaze with fire.
I find almost all of those FF11 names are better than the other ff counterparts you listed.
Better maybe, but I still like the other names for nostalgia.
If the older titles were translated today, those items would likely adopt the FFXI names, or very similar ones. I think it's wise to get more accurate translations instead of keeping the bad ones just for "nostalgia".
If there was any doubt whether "relic/empyrean equipment" included weapons or not:

Some of those are the same name though, just different languages. Ryu no hige is literaly dragon's beard/whisker. Yoichi no yumi is literally Yoichi's bow. In the mythology, Thor's Hammer is specifically named Mjollnir. Longinis has been avoided in the English naming usually, because it is religiously charged, being a Christian reference, the spear used to stab Jesus. The older FF games suffered from localization differences, name length limits, and censorship in naming conventions (remember Pearl instead of Holy in the original Final Fantasy VI?). Heck, they're correcting a lot of localization in FFXI now with an entire forum section on the official forums. I'm still waiting for them to fix Organics to be Ogre Nix, and yet somehow we still get that mistranslation from FFVII...
Speculation, but considered what they'll name these mythics, as for Rune Fencer's and assuming it's going to be a great sword, I'm placing my bets on Tournesol http://finalfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/Tournesol
http://images3.wikia.nocookie.net/__..._Tournesol.PNG
Edit: Also mind blown: Tournesol is only missing an i to be an anagram of Resolution.
thats different, they never stuck BLU PUP COR SCH DNC to any relic weapon giving the same reason they gave for now RNF and GEO. AS IF DNC on Mandau, COR on Anihilator, SCH on lolClaustrum, BLU on Excalibur and PUP on Spharai would be so broken...
This is the chance for them to add finally fit ALL the jobs to the relic weapons, but it will never happen unless we bitch too much (maybe not even then)
I forgot about Tournesol. Speaking of FF staple gear, now that we have Crystal gear from Provenance, it's high time for some Genji equipment(PLD/WAR/DRG/DRK/SAM/BST/NIN)
So if Rune Fencer is not on Caladbolg then I'm assuming it's safe to say it won't be on the OaT Greatsword either, since they both use the same base trial weapon. Hm..
