maybe those avatars shown on the world map don't depict ingame summons, but rather symbolize the servers they had in the first year of service (dont know when this world map was made, but zilart areas are on it) ... would explain some monsters like Ixion, Fairy, Valefor etc.

furthermore they call their servers "worlds" so they'd better be on a "world"map

I may be blind, but I don't see half of the crap that people are saying they see in that map! Like Ixion, nor Bismarck like the other poster said. Also, I don't believe Ixion was ever a server name unless that was extremely early in the game's existence.

Celestial avatars govern the 8 cardinal elements. Terrestrial avatars govern the more abstract intangible concepts like rebirth/dreams/rainbows/moonlight

That kinda looks like Ixion but then again it also looks like it has wings, which Ixion does not have.

I also notice the Carbuncle shown is the one from FF8, and doesn't quite resemble the Carby we got.

So that Map is probably an early concept, a lot of what you see was probably never added. Ifrit/Bahamut's Color scheme probably changed... Garuda got greener, etc. A lot of what we "See" in those pictures are probably what we think they are from past games, its just the art direction changed before final release.

I had always associated the statues in the Hall of the Gods with the celestials- the 6 unbroken statues were the sleeping gods and the broken ones were Alex/Odin.

more likely the celestials. they're divided elementally and it IS the hall of the gods, so most likely they're the celestials, who are pretty much regarded as gods

You guys are really reaching lol. The statue's that look like ladies in long gowns are the Dawn Maidens okay. You know, the ladies that wear long gowns. Yeesh. Need new info on expansion asap, why does FFXI always turn into avatars talk.
