Most people I know that still play it are hanging around for v2, if that fails to live uptp the promises they will be gone.FFXIV so good no one is talking about it.

XIV is probably playable now.. just that the community is so jaded anyone new joining is really on his own. not enough fresh blood i think.
i'd play it but my laptop doesn't think i should.. so im just waiting for 2.0
In all honestly I am willing to resub, but only if I really hear about any major game play changes which are still missing from all the 2.0 info.
I feel like I don't even have to choose between the two games because of how casual friendly XIV is. I hope they don't get rid of that aspect.
In comparison to XI the game is pretty casual.
FFXIV feels way too close to someone trying to sell you a car that everyone knows has been in a major accident but insists that after the repairs it runs like new. Even with the changing of the guard, I think I'll pass. Hell, FFXI is suffering from quite a bit of that too at this point in my opinion.
Then you realise they rebuilt the new car in a week and it's worse then the old one.Except that the old car has been trashed and the car they're trying to sell you is , in fact, brand new but with some features of the old one.
Took then 6 years to make FFXIV, just over 1 year to make v2? Not rushed at all!
You can't say this yet. 2.0 isn't close to being out yet. As it stands currently, the totaled car that was repaired is correct. The game as it is right now is not rebuilt with new features, it has simply been repaired and tweaked a bit, with a few new features. The body and frame of the car is the exact same one as before, and the body and the frame of XIV - the core of it - is what is wrong with the game.
Its a rotten apple. You can caramelize the outside and slap nuts and chocolate on it, but the core is still rotten. Until they replace it with an entirely new apple, its still a bad purchase.
He said its not that way now and that 2.0 isn't really that close to being released. 1.0 really is exactly what he said it is. I have fun now, its casual and I don't constantly hate myself for jumping on, but if it wasn't for the 'promise' of 2.0 I'd be questioning why I was even playing as the core (UI, Servers, even graphics in some spots) are really bad, but as most know that is getting redone from the ground up.
A better analogy is a car salesman agreeing to give you a beat up piece of shit of a car (but working and telling you as much) with the promise of giving you new car with similar features in 6 months but you are not told exactly how this car will run.
Except that the original comparison was made with 2.0 in mind because SE isn't trying to sell us 1.0 again. No one was really talking about 1.0 here so it doesn't matter.
They've added all of the other stuff, for the most part. There are tons of quests, there is story, there are things going on in the world that occur without you and are a result of different parts of the story.
As I see it, a few things need to change and a few need to be avoided.
Avoid:
Listening to anyone from Japan; Japanese players want to kill this game with RNG and grinding. Continue with a Western MMO philosophy.
Allowing gear changes during combat. It allows for sidegrade gear updates and for the eventual lazyness of a company - release new shitty gear instead of content with better gear needed to beat another piece of new content.
Change:
Travel - make it free, make it fast, make it unlimited. People shouldn't have to manage their traveling like a debit card, they should be able to go anywhere and play the game.
Search - You can't find anyone, check their zone, see if they're online, find people seeking for a party, nada. This needs to be completely redone.
Lag - UI and NPC lag has to be removed 100%. I understand if the AH is bringing up a price history, I don't understand why randomnpc I sell shit to takes 5-10s to allow me to sell him shit.
Auction House - Retainers need to go away completely, no portion of this should be left in the game.
Load distance - You can't see people 5ft from you in a town, and 30ft from you outside the cities. Less if you're fighting stuff. I've run into areas with Lv80-99 mobs and was halfway through them before they were even on my screen.
UI Functionality/timestamp XIWindower features - Right now it is very difficult to see a lot of things in your chat log and very difficult to filter them to make it any easier on yourself. The colors aren't very good or customizeable and you aren't able to just quickly search one type of chat (/say/tell/etc)
Keep
Releasing new, tiered content (beat dungeon, get drop, beat other mob, get drops, repeat for quest -> (new content) repeat cycle)
XP easy and fun (JP want XP to be exactly like end game fights, some want XP to be 3000XP for 1 hard mob instead of 500XP for 6 easier ones, some want it to be 500XP for 1 hard mob...) - basically ignore anyone with yellow skin if they have an opinion about FFXIV's direction
And more solo stuff thats actually worthwhile.
