    Les Miserables (December 14, 2012)

I may be the only BGer excited about this, but fuck it...it deserves it's own thread. Finally a musical version of Les Mis instead of the bullshit movie we got last time.

    Hugh Jackman - Jean Valjean
    Russell Crowe - Javert
    Anne Hathaway - Fantine
    Amanda Seyfriedb - Cosette
    Sacha Baron Cohen - Thénardier
Helena Bonham Carter - Madame Thénardier

I am ridiculously excited for this.

I'm always ridiculously excited for anything that involves Hugh Jackman singing.

Cohen was great in Sweeney Todd...can't wait to see him as Thenardier. I really really like the casting of Russel Crowe as Javert also, he could do some amazing things with that. I am very curious to see what songs they cut and what they keep.

I want to watch this in the cinema, but I'd need to take a box of tissues in with me. Seen the live version twice I think and half the songs make me cry.

Not exactly excited for this but I do agree this will turn out to be a very good production.

    Hugh Jackman
Opening act of 81st Annual Academy Awards (embedding disabled) - also has Anne Hathaway
    Opening the Tony's:

    Anne Hathaway
Besides the Les Mis trailer and the Academy Awards with Hugh Jackman, "Somebody To Love" from Ella Enchanted:

Amanda Seyfried sang as one of the leads in Mamma Mia:

Sascha Baren Cohen has sung a gazillion times over the years in various sketches and skits, but here's from Sweeney Todd

Helena Bonham Carter was also in Sweeney Todd

    Russel Crowe

On the whole, I think they have a decent singing cast, especially since you know they're going to be studio'ed to hell.

Seeing this musical back in...93 or 94 changed me. There are few things that I've ever seen that evoke the emotions that this story does and the music does a fantastic job of setting the tone. I have seen it half a dozen times or so...twice on Broadway...and will keep seeing it as long as they tour it. The barricade scene alone is worth the price of admission. I can't hear "Do you hear the people sing" without tearing up. It needs to be December now!

Ya seeing Wicked last year with my fiance' really changed my perspective on staged entertainment. "Defying gravity" blew my mind. She basically said "You think that was good, wait til Les Mis comes around" and told me she was going to take me for my birthday.

Hell yeah dude...my girlfriend took me to Wicked last October. I was blown away. She hasn't seen Les Mis, so I'm taking her to see it as soon as it comes anywhere near enough that I can make it. Wicked has such an amazing messages in it also...down to the smallest details.

So this got me searching for when Les Mis would next hit Utah... and it turns out it's at the Utah Shakespeare Festival for the first time. It starts tomorrow and runs for the next couple months. Only 4 hours away... time to gather some friends for a road trip!

And I'm definitely seeing the film opening day!

Certainly an effective way to get a blowjob.

I was in our High School's production of Les Miserables (Bishop of Digne, Revolutionary Student #whatever), and it was an amazing experience. I love all the music from Les Mis, but I think the ensemble numbers were just incredible. Absolutely my favorite memory from HS. "Stars" especially gets me every time. My top 3 numbers from the show would have to be:
    "One Day More"
"Finale" (Do You Hear the People Sing)
and "Look Down" (w/Gavroche, beggars etc...)

    Mine would be:
I Dreamed a Dream (before SuBo)
    Come to Me
    A Little Fall of Rain
    Javert's Suicide
    Finale
