I think the biggest argument against dumpster diving for food is that dirty hippies who dumpster dive have been in those dumpsters.

Not that I think it's wise to do it, OP I believe from earlier in this thread you stated you live in MD right? If so I would highly suggest not doing any of this over the next two week or so since so many places in this area have been without power and some will not get power back until this weekend. Who knows how long it will take some stores to throw out tainted food.

very true, I carry a bat with me in case I run into hippies.

Back from Trader Joes, got 2 packages of Ciabatta bread, which was enclosed in it's own garbage bag with other non moldy bread and had no tears or anything in the bag. 2 things of roma tomatoes that are fine except for a few specks on 2 out of 15 of them. 1 pepper which was completely fine and some bags of trail mix.

Yeah I was steering clear of anywhere I knew that didn't have power over the weekend. I know Trader Joes had power through the entire storm and over the weekend plus the trash pickup was this morning so the shit that was there tonight was thrown out at the end of the night.

I see nothing wrong with this but personally I wouldn't do it for the sole reason that I'm too lazy, if I KNEW that x food was in y dumpster, I'd have no problem getting it and taking it home and eating it, but to go searching I'm just too lazy. If someone made me a meal from dumpster dived food I'd eat it too, given I saw the ingredients were safe beforehand.
