I would have advised you to shit on the opposite side of the dumpster that they toss the food into.

That's great! So did I, and now I can put that money in the bank and not spend it on this shit I got for free.

You do realize this shit doesnt take more then 15minutes right Archi? It's not like you go out for a 4-9hr stint hitting every dumpster in the state. Do you live in the middle of nowhere where the closest store is 2hrs away?

Instead I can go buy some hookers

I was talking to a friend about this, and he actually got sick dumpster diving. Apparently he had a box of old pizza sitting out of the fridge overnight, his roommate threw it in the dumpster the next morning... so he got pissed and went to get it out of the dumpster to eat it, and ended up getting food poisoning.

This is also a guy who once picked up a girl at a college football game and fucked her in a port-a-john during half time... so take from that what you will. There is a certain level of awesomeness to people who live by their own rules, but as Rasheed Wallace used to say about the proverbial ball... diarrhea don't lie.

my problem with this entire thread is... you guys literally have no idea as to why these people are throwing this shit away you're just assuming it's the best case scenario.. I mean literally it could be any fucking reason, not that any of you peasants give a fuck though.. happy hunting.
Considering it's almost 99% the reason being that most of the shit has an "best if sold by" date of the following day they go in trash, because no one shopping is going to purchase those items and the store wont mark them down most of the time (I know some stores actually do put produce and shit on a discount rack). All the bread and shit was marked "best if sold by 6/28/12" that I got last night, still good this morning, made some burgers with the buns I got tonight and they were still completely fine and couldnt even tell they were set to expire today.

Long as you're smart and not eating fucking pizza out of the dumpster and shit I think the risk is less then the risk of getting hit by a drunk driver while driving to the location. Unless you shit gold and you're Trump's private lapdancer like Archi and raking in that dough there aint nothing wrong with it.

First I think this movement is more about highlighting the extremely bad amount of waste that happens in this country. It is sad how much perfectly good food is thrown away while so many people starve. Not to mention all the plastic packaging the food is packaged in that goes straight from the manufacturer to the dump. Second Tweek you are acting like people can't tell the difference between good and bad food. Yes some people are retarded and might not be able to tell but your average person can easily tell if food is bad or good. People smelled their food and visually inspected it for a very long time before there were food manufacturers putting arbitrary expiration dates on food. Why all of a sudden are people thinking the "sell by" date or the expiration date on food actually means something, it doesn't! Food goes bad before those dates all the time, and food lasts far beyond those dates all the time too.

Yeah even the arguments about food kinda turns me off. Don't get me wrong, I'm a champion of free shit but I've seen what comes out of dumpsters and won't dare run in there with the intent on pulling tomorrows crumpets and tea out because it's free.

I'm talking more along the lines of those places that use dumpsters as their heavy trash collector. I won't go anywhere near a place I know is disposing of foodstuffs but Circuit City? Best Buy? The Best Buy in Fairfax tosses boxes of discontinued entertainment systems, car stereo's, TV's, DVD players (not Blueray, apparently you can send those back to the manufacturer for a small recycling refund) and even movies! Those bins you see in the middle of the store of them trying to get rid of years old stock? They skim the top off the piles, toss em, then throw new shit ontop of it till next year.

But yes, archi. Free shit is for hobo's and hippies. Smoke your pipe and give me $5 for the metro.

Why do people keep suggesting canceling internet, as if it isn't one of the best uses of their $20-60/month? Realistically, for many people the other options would either be more expensive, or would make them significantly worse off. Having something to do other than sit around thinking about how much your life sucks is extremely useful.

Is it really that hard to imagine that if someone saves money on food, they have more money to spend on other things?

Just got back from rummaging around the trash bins at a local Charter station and found some perfectly good internets still in the wrapper and only a little past the pull date. Don't see what the big deal is here.

Well considering the internet can be useful for things such as free/dirt cheap phone service, finding a (better) job, avoiding depression, lowering your entertainment budget to $0 (considering the internet will almost certainly save you more money than it costs, you should have it anyway, so no need to consider the cost of internets), finding good deals on stuff you need to buy, etc.

Anyone canceling their internet to save money is retarded. Internet access can easily save you tons of money. Dropping down to a slower speed is one thing, but canceling it entirely is nonsensical, and will cost you far more than it saves.

yeah, a lot of jobs can be applied for online, saving you a lot of gas and time going to the stores in person. Not to mention things like searching the internet for places hiring in your area.

It's one of the cheapest and best forms of entertainment on top of that. just look at archi and tweeks posts!

This is a good point though. When this reality television fad dies out, i probably will fall hard.

It could get so bad, so crushing as i struggle with the basic hardships of life...that i end up wading through other people's garbage to find food to eat.

That would be pretty terrible, doing something so debasing to my basic dignity.

Fuck dignity. Dignity has never done anything useful for anyone.

If something can increase your quality of life, who the fuck cares what society thinks of it?
