I recently came back and don't really think I've noticed many people who've jumped back into things, so I'm curious what life a full expansion will breath into things.

Definitely considering coming back when the expansion drops.
If the expansion was being released tomorrow, I definitely would be coming back. Since it's not being released until 2013, it's hard to say. It's definitely piqued my interest back into FFXI for now, whether I'll still be interested next year is another story. I'm probably more likely to try FFXIV 2.0 (never played FFXIV at all).
Maybe... if my character exists, when the expansion is out and well received O_o
They have explicitly confirmed that Seekers of Adoulin will not be released for PS2 in North America. PS2 support will continue, of course, but no Seekers (unless they change their tune later on). I assume it will be released in Japan since it's on the JP site.
I'm a little confused at this point as to why people are still playing on a PS2. A fairly crappy PC from five years ago should be more than adequate to play FFXI (at significantly higher visual quality than a PS2), and if you're playing on PS2, then you're already paying for internet anyway so... (and even if you don't have or want to buy a PC, I'm sure you can get a used 360 for less than $100).
PS2 is only supported in Japan, if you look at the NA or EU sites it only lists PC and Xbox 360 as the platforms. I use my PS2 as my dual box machine so hopefully there will be a direct download option for PS2, but SE has been quite about it so far.
On topic, I voted that I will come back closer to release, but it depends on the information that is released. If it looks interesting and we get more details about how some of the systems will work then I will be back early, but if there is limited info or it looks only so-so then I will wait for it to be released and see what the reception is.
Greetings,
I’d like to take a moment to clarify which platform Seekers of Adoulin will be available on for those that have been asking. We will continue to support North American FINAL FANTASY XI players on the PlayStation 2, Xbox 360 and PC (Windows) platforms. However, FINAL FANTASY XI: Seekers of Adoulin will only be available on the Xbox 360 and Windows platforms in North America when it is released in 2013.
yeah, Im probably going to play around with it, get my ranger to level 99, upgrade my yoichi, then call it a day again. that is if Im not completely furious with the game like the last several times in the past few months Ive tried to come back
edit:
if you dont have a pc or xbox360 version then you honestly need to get the fuck out. this game runs on practically nothing
The only reason I stopped paying was because there was no automatic billing. But now that there is, i'm back.
Yes. All I needed to give them more money was some genuinely new content that isn't old zones with mood-lighting. Took them 5 years but they did so time to keep my end of the deal.
I'll resubscribe in a month or two, because I still will have to finish leveling up 3 jobs from 95 > 99. I have no desire to do Voidwatch or Legion unless I was invited by a cool group of people. There's too much other important stuff for me to focus on in my life now, I don't want to play hardcore, only to dabble and check out the new expansion.
I think a lot of people will be coming back, I'm actually really glad they announced this because FFXI was looking doomed.
For the uh 2nd or 3rd time I've started over again, Iclone on Slyph. Nostalgia kicked me in the face back in April to come back, but had something come up and had to let the free month expire.
There is just something about this game I love and hate at the same time. Shit pulls me away and brings me back every time. I've been in mmo apathy since '06 when my original account was banned because of some stuff. I just hope I can find a good shell soon because I hate soloing because there are barely any Gusgen pts when I'm on.
Very likely will come back, the main issue that worries me is coming back as a new player and not finding a LS/decent people to actually get into the game with, which is what has put me off coming back before.
So yeah. Definitely maybe.
I'll wait and see if leveling will still require Abyssea or not when the expansion comes out. I could justify coming back for the price of an expansion. I can't really justify coming back for expansion + $30 worth of old content that I don't actually want.
Already came back, don't know for how long though. Friend is having a hell of a time getting his account back after ultimatepay randomly charged back everything he payed to Square Enix.
If you don't want to level in abyssea, there is always page burning, but I have no idea how much exp/hr you can get at the higher levels as I've only used it until 30. If you aren't interested in either pages or abyssea, what are you looking for regarding exp? I think it's safe to say no one wants to go back to 5k/hr crabs or any other example of old style, so are there any thoughts of a system other than abyssea to get a decent exp/hr ratio? Maybe just make mobs give more exp?
