Nah, it's mainly because Dallas is the only good team with cap space next year. If it's not LA or NY, he doesn't have many options to contend.

My take is they aren't a serious contender next season anyway with Rose still recovering. Grossly overpaying Omer Asik isn't going to help matters, and they didn't lose any other core pieces.
