DayZ - To be released in 2016

Friend and I decided to say screw all the good gear and sneaking around NWAF worrying about being shot, threw some of the stuff in a tent and died. Both of us respawn near cherno, hes at balota and I'm at prigordoky. He finds an M24, I find a cz550 so we head to the huge tower in the middle of cherno and switch to a ~45 person server. Log in to gunfire, quickly we find 3 people and synchronize double shoot them all. After a while I'm out of cz550 ammo so I start making my way to one of our kills at the fire station. I get down the long ladder and start making my way there, suddenly I'm opened up on by a sniper and I can't tell where but he is a horrible shot. After about 15 shots at me while I'm sprinting he finally gets me...

Some of the most fun I've had in a while, I'll be doing it again tomorrow for sure.

Grrr.. reading all the posts and info about the game is really making me want to play.. but I'm not sure if I can justify spending money on it after the standalone announcement.

Revolver is still one hit kill, I don't know what that table is talking about. Fucking love that gun, not terribly loud either, especially when you know you'll only have to fire it once.

The work to make this a stand alone game, it'll probably be a year+ to finish it. 20 bucks for a year or more of enjoyment isn't a bad deal at all.

Well I mean, it'll be playable once it goes to alpha since it's following a minecraft type release. The question is how long it'll take to get to alpha. Maybe I should just flip a quarter.

I don't know what to say, my revolver 1hit kills everything, and I doubt I'm headshotting everything with no scope, crosshair kills lol. This has been across a few servers too, unless there was an update in the past day and a half that changed this.

so i log in today when i finally get home, theres 20 people on 1378, i log in to the firestation in electro, i was alt tabbed while it was loading, i tab back in to my gun firing full auto and i can't stop it. so after a clip empties i reload and it stops. by now anyone in electro heard the shots, i hear two sets of shots, one from the tree line in the distance to the north, the other closer, i walk outside the firehouse and head towards the shack near it, behind me i hear sniper fire from about 30 feet away, guy fires 7 or 8 times and misses every shot, i zig zag and sprint behind cover, and then run back out of cover aiming down my sites, i hit him a bunch of times, he hits the ground, i hit him while hes on the ground a few times, then his body disappears. fucker alt f4'ed.

so i say fuck it, move onto the super market. scouring the supermarket for a pack, im rearranging my inventory when i hear a train of angry zombies headed my way, which can only be lead by a player, so im ready and waiting, this guy comes into the back of the supermarket, i open up on him as soon as i see him, down him quickly but he does hit me with one shot(didn't notice at the time) so theres like 20 zombies in the super market now, i abort to get rid of them, come back in, this dude has an alice pack, thank goodness, cause there wasn't one in the supermarket, on top of that hes got everything i needed to survive out in the wilderness, so i strip him of his possessions, and while im doing this the screen starts to turn white and im like FUCK IM BLEEDING. i went from 10k to 3k in the time i was rearranging inventory. bandaged up, finished what i was doing

head back to the original firehouse i came from lookin for dmr mags for the new gun i picked up off the dead guy, i get to the tower and i hear, ping... pichew.... someone is takin pot shots at me while im in the tower, he never actually hit me at all, so i rush back down the tower, and abort, with a plan of playing a little later when its quieter on the server.

so was it wrong of me to a.) abort to get rid of the 20 swarming zombies in the supermarket, b.) abort to avoid a firefight i probably would've lost, though the guy never actually hit me?

i hate playing like a dick, but it is about survival right? and if i feel that way? am i still justified in hating the prick i took down earlier but aborted before actually dieing? or am i just a hypocritical douchebag?

Had a bit of fun on 1378 yesterday, starting in Electro in that same firestation. Logged in there, crawled my way to the shack outside the station, down a side street, and behind and into the church before finding an Enfield. Tension building as I made my way to the church since I was hearing gunshots a bit down the road. Then crawled right to the intersection, then down the road toward the supermarket. I look toward the school(?) because I hear flies, and when I turn back around I see a guy zip into a building. I freeze there for a few minutes, not knowing what to do, until I decide to make my way into the school while keeping an eye out for the guy. Find a dead body on the 2nd floor, raid the body, and then station myself at the top of the stairs for a few minutes. Paid off, since the guy ended up finding me and then finding a bullet in his head (guy alt F4'ed too). Loaded up on Enfield and Revolver ammo in the school, then crawled to the supermarket to find myself a bunch of food and drinks. Friggin' matches still elude me . Finally ended my day crawling to the firestation on the outskirts. Never aggro'd a single zombie despite being surrounded a few times.

As for Alt F4-ing... I think it's a dick move to do when you're dying/about to die, I probably wouldn't do it if I'm in a zombie-related situation, and dunno about the firefight you mention. If I had good gear and just didn't feel like getting in a fight I might... though in all likelihood I probably wouldn't even think to do it in the heat of the moment.

The zombie abort, while lame, isn't too bad. Aborting when the player was shooting though is a dick move, you're fault for not realizing you're bleeding. First thing I do after a zombie attack is make sure no more are coming for me, then check for blood loss, cause its pretty much 50/50 if a zombie is gonna cut you up or not.

But live and learn dude. Its not even that big a deal.

Sounds like they need to take the MMO approach of holding your character in the game for 10-30 seconds if you prematurely exit the game.

yeah that would be fine, because i had to go anyways when i logged, i stayed gone, and when i did logout i was safe inside the tower, he was shooting from far away so i dont think he could've got to me in that amount of time, but i agree it would be nice if something was done to curb it, it would've made that zombie situation much different though haha, would've have had to at least run and probably got shot doing it.

If you seasoned DayZ players have any advice for a completely new player (never even played ARMA yet), what would it be? I know not to trust anyone until I know without doubt they aren't a bandit, but aside from that, I don't know what a new player should be focusing on doing once on a server.

Once you get the controls down, raid the small towns till you find a hatchet, its one of you best early weapons. It won't help for shit in pvp, but its silent and a 1hit kill against zombies. That said, you're not rambo and can't just run through town with you hatchet killing with out discretion, zombies are too fast and hurt too much for that.

Once you get that, find yourself a hospital or pharmacy type store and stock up on bandages, morphine shots (this is the biggest thing, try and get at least 3 if you can), 1 or 2 blood bags, and an epi pen if you have 1 extra slot (this you can skip for the most part). With all that, skies the limit really, you'll have the meds to survive post any zombie fight, so the rest is just slowly raiding towns for better gear and weapons. Stay quiet and take your time, you're doing it right if it takes you 30min just to crawl into the middle of a town to get to a building with out any aggro.

Learn and love this map. Try to make your adventures into cherno/elektro as efficient as possible. The longer you stay in a city the more likely you will be shot.

Zombies cannot run indoors or up stairs, use this to your advantage if you are being chased. There are a lot of buildings with 2 entrances you can lose them in.

Any rifle will work for starting, any pistol will work too. Try to keep some soda or water bottles, and a few cans of food with you at all times. Tools to focus on early are hatchet, matches, hunting knife, compass. With the first 3 you won't have to carry food, you can hunt when needed. Try to find at least one morphine, if a zombie breaks your legs or you are shot and break a bone without one you will likely be restarting.

Dont get attached to anything. You will die a lot. At first it will seem like gearing out is fun, eventually the fun will come from starting over and not worrying about the gear.

Most importantly, try to find some people to play with! The game is a lot more fun with a few people who you can trust not to shoot you in the back of the head. Unless you end up shooting a few of them on accident like I've done.
