Honestly I just jumped right in and explored without really knowing what I was doing. First few times in the game I just ran around until I found some houses or a town and then tried to sneak in to find stuff. Hell, that's pretty much all I'm doing now too... though now I make use of an online map to get a general idea of where I am. Drinks and Food are obviously very important to find as is some sort of weapon, so I'd say those are probably the first things you'd want to look for.

So I caved in and bought stuffs. Installing the games now. Hopefully be dayz-able in an hour or two. Any recommendations for servers to start on?

Logged into 1378 yesterday after reading this thread... Found 2 dead bodies in a warehouse.. Not sure what happened, but I'm glad it did.. There was food/drinks galore, with 3 different weapons, tons of ammo, and knife/matches... This is the most well off I've ever been in this game.. Can't wait to fuck it up!

Couldn't get 1378 to load, tried other servers, oh there's an update....on 848 now, any other noobs want to meet up and die horribly together?

It feels like mouse control is weird in this game.. like it tries to smooth the movement. Is there a way to change this? Couldn't find anything in the in-game options.

Decided to go about getting gear a different way. I've been to the NW airfield a few times and found absolutely nothing each time. Tried finding stuff in the military tents in sober but end up getting sniped . Me and my gf took a hike to the northern part of the map and found some tents :D ending up geting a SVD + FAL and tons of ammo. Granted I will probably die before using anything I CAN AT LEAST SAY I HAD IT.

After a couple of hours of my only weapon being a hatchet, and after dieing twice, I finally found an M16A2 at the power station fire house. I guess I should probably make my way towards the hospital in Electro next?

edit: Time to sleep.. I'll find out what the game is like at night when I wake up I guess.

I almost always alt f4 out of the game if I'm being shot at. I don't really want to confront anyone and don't plan on shooting anyone. I just want to explore and find cool stuff.

1.7.2.5 fixes it, but it's not on sixlauncher atm, you have to do a full install for it from the site because they're not putting it on sixlauncher until they're sure everything works. So either wait or do that. A decent amount of servers are updated to 1.7.2.5 now.

1378 seems to have went down.. only a few minutes after I started playing again too.

Anybody here recommend any other servers for now? I feel like joining a random server is going to kill me.

edit: Also, are any of you using a specific vent/ts/mumble for meeting up/playing together on the game? I've been playing solo so far.

I think since I was on the server when it disconnected it screwed my shit up. I get stuck on the last loading screen whenever trying to join any server and I can't do anything. D:

That would probably be it.. whenever I try to join a fully updated server I got a "version outdated" even though dayz commander says I'm up to date. So I was trying to join servers that weren't running the latest arma version.

Oh well, 1378 came back up and I'm back on there. Unfortunately nowhere near electro hospital anymore since it spawned me at the beach again. Finally found water and some food right before I almost died of thirst. With a water bottle and this hunting knife I think I might be able to survive in the forest. If anybody wants to meet up I'm game.

edit: RNG rates me. Since drinks didn't want to spawn for me anywhere I was forced to keep searching.. came across a lone zombie in my path so I decide I'll headshot him and check the inside of a house. My gun decided it wanted to be on burst for no fucking reason so I sprayed my last 3 bullets and the zombie promptly proceeded to break my leg. Nowhere near a hospital, no drinks, and thirst indicator already blinking I became dooooooomed. Maybe my fourth life will be better. If the game didn't send me back to the beach I would have been set.

Got everything installed and started playing yesterday. Let's just say my laptop is not quite up to the task. I had to turn down pretty much every setting and the game is still nearly unplayable. Might have to hold off until I get my gaming tower back up and running to play this. I also couldn't get my flashlight to work for the life of me. So I was crawling around while it was pitch black lol.

right click flashlight, remove from toolbelt. then you use it as if it were a weapon.
