I removed it from my toolbelt but I don't know how to use it lol. I literally installed and immediately started playing. Didn't read a single thing about the controls. Only died once. Found a house but I can't see if I can get into it, there were two zombies nearby so I crawled away.

As a rule, if you can't see through the windows, you can't enter.

Alright, thanks Hank. That will save me some time. I was so excited to actually find something other than trees and then to not be able to enter I was sad. It looks like a little farm though because there were a few other small structures I didn't get the chance to explore before I got kicked off.

I found a small 'town' and tried to find some water in it. After 7 houses in a row not being enter-able I got pretty annoyed lol.

When you log out I'm assuming it leaves you in the same spot you logged at? I have no idea where I'm at by the way. It spawned me on a seashore. The only landmarks I can find were a paved two laned road and railroad tracks a little further past that. Where does one get a map?

No problem. I've been playing for about a month and I'm starting to get comfortable with it. I'll also say, crawling around makes a substantial difference for zombie detection. You can, more or less, safely check out an entire city crawling. You can get, I'd say, about five feet from a zombie if you're crawling without worrying.

It usually leaves you in the same spot you logged out at. Though when the server disconnected me I spawned at some random beach starting point with all my gear.

I think it puts you on the beach if you fail the attempt to login from previous logout point.

The only problem with crawling in a city is you're pretty much fucked if somebody sees you first and decides to kill you. I crouch walk and have become pretty adept at avoiding zombies/losing zombies.

When you pick up a zombie out in the open what's the best way to shake them? If I climb over a fence will that hang them up or are they able to climb as well?

Trying to get the game to run in windowed fullscreen is a nightmare. No matter what I do it reverts to 1920x1176. I even set the config file to read only and it says 1920x1200 before I run the game, as the game is running, and after I close it.

Ahah.. I found the secret to zombies and getting started. Just run the fuck everywhere and aggro shit. You can dump your goblin train off at any Yhoater/Yuhtunga zone by running into/through a building with more than one exit or up a building with multiple floors.

Using this method I finally got myself some medical supplies, my first pistol (yay!), and a compass so I almost know where the fuck I'm going. Now if I can just get myself a hatchet, a hunting knife, and some matches I can become a self-sufficient forest man.

Also, anybody want to administer my blood bag to me somewhere near Electro? lol

Try to find a steep drop that you can safely walk down. As you stand half way down it, the zombie's AI will make it run after you, instead of walk. It will launch itself over your head and die from the fall. It doesn't even really need to be that steep of a drop, as the zombie will shoot a decent distance lol

They won't climb the fence, but you won't get far enough away to lose aggro before it can path around it.

So does anybody know why I keep getting a 'Version Outdated' or some shit error when connecting to servers that aren't as updated as me? I'm using 95883/1.7.2.5 and I can connect to 1378 which is 95248/1.7.2.4 but I can't join 2059 which is 95389/1.7.2.4 or some other random server that was 95885/1.7.2.5.

Hmmm.. in game it says my version is 1.62.95248, but in DayZCommander it says my revision is 95913.

edit: haha figured it out, I needed to click a checkbox to replace steam files to make beta work. Now my problem is I'm stuck at a black loading screen forever.

When in doubt do a check file for Arma 2 and OA in Steam.

probablygonna try that myself. manual update just reverts back to old version. dayz commander update reverts as well. trid the whole reinstalling battleeye thing and that did fuck all
