They're fairly common now. If you can't target it, just zoom in/move around till you see Take Hatchet. Sometimes it's glitchy and can't get it easily. Once you pick it up, it'll go to your toolbar where you can use it to chop wood (for making campfires if you have matches.) To equip as a weapon, right click and choose Remove from Toolbar to equip it to your main inventory slot. After that, you have to reload it (due to the game's engine I believe) and then should have the ability to hit other players/zombies/whatever. To put it back on your toolbar so you can equip a gun, just right click and choose Add to Toolbar.

You actually don't need the base game, but the expansion Operation Arrowhead. There's a free version of the base game, but you have to have the expansion. This gives a bit more information on installing here

So, if I got it right, you play on a big server a la MMO, with a bunch of other players running around in the same world as you? You spawn somewhere, try to get provisions and weapons while avoiding zombies and interact with other players, is that right?

I'd be interested in playing if it's something like that, the game itself looks very betaish, but with player interaction like that it could get pretty entertaining, the map from what I saw in the videos looks really big too

running walking and sneaking it took my friend and I a few earth hours to run from ELEKTROZAVODSK to a castle miles and miles away. so it's pretty damn big

It's in the Alpha now. It's still really glitchy and shit. But the guy developing it has been pretty consistant with updates.

I was extremely excited to play this, but now all I want to do is bash my head into a wall. After getting it all installed I had to put up with load times of 30+ minutes. Even after getting into the game all I did was run.... and run... and run. Find a building, can't go inside, no loot, run some more. Find a town, aggro a zombie, run for 10 minutes then die, reload the game for another 30 minutes. Overall not what I was expecting after watching videos/reading about it. If I send an email to steam for a refund (claiming the game is unplayable, I know I will lie) do you think they would do it? Or possibly dispute the charge with paypal? I just see a 48$ (bought a copy for my gf) a hole in my paypal account.

Maybe if someone didn't have to deal with such redicoulus load times they could actually put more time into the game and learn from mistakes. Anyways, your post does not help them in the least, don't post if all your going to do is bash someone who only wants to enjoy th game but finds it impossible with the current build. Siya, I wish you luck with your refund, game looks very fun however in its current build I just don't see it.

Not even exaggerating. launch the game then look at reddit/lay down/read about the game and wait. Tried a few different servers all with 60-ish ping but it always takes a very long time to load. Trying it out again, but now just get into servers with hackers... will randomly get picked up into the sky then drop and die...

Wow that really sucks. I haven't come across any of those problems yet and I'm sure I'd be pissed if I did. I remember the first time I launched the game it did take a while but now it takes me no longer than 2-3 minutes to get from desktop in to a game where I'm in control of my character. Also I guess I'm pretty lucky as far as the hackers go. I haven't seen any yet but I've read a bit about them. I think the servers I've been playing in are decently moderated but I'm not 100% sure I don't actually know the people/clans that run the server I just found it by random chance and keep going back.
