It's a mod of DayZ. Since Rocket stopped updating DayZ to work on the standalone these guys have taken it upon themselves to clean it up and just in general make the game better. There's more lootable buildings, less glitches, more guns, more variety of vehicles, they just added the attachment system for guns, and they also just added Podagorsk (sp?) as another map to play on.
Podagorsk even has lootable car wrecks according to the changelog. Also whitelisted servers and they are way stricter on hacking and what-not, I haven't even seen or heard of any instances of hacking since I started playing it.
It's basically what you should be playing until standalone comes out if you still play DayZ.
Just gonna update, IGC is currently running our own server now.
Epoch mod, lots of scripts, mostly oriented towards PvP so acquiring gear and vehicles is pretty easy. Offering custom bases for donations (with protected domes) and once we get some more active players we'll be running events outside of the Dynamic AI Missions (like, dropping a Ural filled with goodies in the middle of Elektro). Also running Op. Arrowhead AI so they're quite a bit tougher than Sarge and lag about 1000x less.

Just updating our server:
Epoch @216.244.74.186:2332
Currently running the following scripts: Self-Bloodbag, Lift/Tow, Protected Traders, Auto-Refuel/Repair, Custom Buildings, AI Events/Missions (Great place to get weapons/food/med supplies...like really great, as well as pre-fab building materials), 550+ vehicles (Attack Helos, some medium armored vehicles, normal Epoch stuff, some of the less powerful jets) as well as hidden Weapon Crates around the map (Russian Special, US Special/Basic, Explosives crates). Also run server PvP oriented events with briefcase, prefabs, weapon rewards. Slowly starting to build a good base of players up and the server has been paid/donated for some time to come. If you want to shoot me please join!
ive been playing again recently, mostly origins but will check it out tonight when I get home
It's your lucky day, our host is down lol. I've been playing a lot though due to lack of stuff in XIV and standalone having no hope of being completed any time soon.
I think I'll have to check it out. I thought everyone quit to get the standalone.
host back up as well as server update to 1.0.2.4.
and yea, most did. I just don't think the timeline on that is gonna be anytime soon.
Edit: Not sure if it's still an issue in 1.0.2.4, but if you're getting blackscreened/birds on load in, try letting the entire background pixelate/load before hitting "OK" at the Error message.
i quit for a long while but i was really expecting standalone to be about by now with the whole "not longer than two months" deadline but not really a deadline.
i found a decent group to play with on an origins server, we're just getting set up on a new server now, but most of us play nightly.
will probably check out epoch tonight if its up
I've played a bit of all the mods, to be honest I like Epoch the best simply because of the inventory system being tied to weight instead of space.
Our server is up though, I'm Thrash in game so hit me up and I can help you get started, esp. if you've never done Epoch.
Thats a pretty awesome change, i really wish they would do away with the clunky block system in origins but i doubt they will. really hope the standalone does something like weight based equipment. I always thought that it would be cool to have a game like that where the amount of weight in gear you're carrying directly affects the speed you can walk/run/sprint and the rates at which your stamina depletes.
the other thing that is kind of ridiculous is they haven't really balanced the bags at all when they added new items.
there is kids packs that you find most frequently and they are all 16 slot packs which is the same as the czech and better than the assault pack, and about half the physical size of each. no doubt im rocking my dora the explorer backpack errynight.
thats really the only thing that keeps me playing origins, all the extra vehicles and items they added. housing and garages and stuff like that. its nice being able to establish a permanent presence that can't be looted while you're away. and then of course sector b, the strongholds and the new flying fortress are pretty nice long term goals to work towards with a crew.
Same in Epoch, except building a base that won't get blown up easily takes a lot longer than Origins, where I think in Epoch building a base that can get blown up easy is quicker than Origins. Garages and stuff too. To be honest, a lot of what is going to be in Standalone is from Epoch, the only other mod I haven't checked out is Aftermath which looks better than any of the other mods but I'm not sure of its inventory system. I just can't go back to it not being weight related lol.
Church, I'll join your server tonight. In game name is Alex.
Gotta wait until bedtime for the kids and then it's zombie killing time.
edit:
dammit chirch, y u no have crosshairs?
This only bothers me with melee weapons. But greatly bother me it does.dammit chirch, y u no have crosshairs?
It has crosshairs, are you just looking at what it says in DayzCommander?
edit: playing XIV tonight though, or should be.
yea, was looking at dayz commander.
just tried your epoch server, probably the most fun in dayz i've had since i've been back, and there were only 2 people on the server, and i encountered neither of them. i spawned in cherno, with more supplies than i felt i should have. and i quickly discover why, gunshots almost as soon as i get near the fire house. bandit ai really adds another terrifying element to this game, especially when you think you're alone.
i killed like 2 squads of 5 or 6 before a random zombie clipped me, knocking me unconscious and then ate me.
im gonna try to get my origins crew to switch over to epoch.
oh btw how does hte bandit ai work? do they spawn near players like the zombies do or do they just roam major cities? do they roam the wilderness?
They roam through everywhere. You will sometimes run into multiple squads within 200 meters from each other, it's happened to me at night sometimes, while on foot.
after playing epoch this morning i've thought about almost nothing else at work all day. i dont know what it is about killing npc bandits but its very satisfying. its just nice to have a threat in the game even when you're alone, cause lets face it, unless you're already hurting zombies are rarely a problem. its always that random knockdown that kills you when you already had low blood.
really hope the guys in our crew will switch over.
