    Texas GOP 2012 Platform

    http://s3.amazonaws.com/texasgop_pre...form_Final.pdf

Just read through this briefly. As with any situation where judgement on many different issues is passed I found a couple of things I agreed with but then I found a couple of things that just made my mind explode.

    Read at your own risk.

Small portion of the document which particularly stood out to me.

Knowledge-Based Education – We oppose the teaching of Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) (values
clarification), critical thinking skills and similar programs that are simply a relabeling of Outcome-Based
Education (OBE) (mastery learning) which focus on behavior modification and have the purpose of challenging
the student’s fixed beliefs and undermining parental authority.
Controversial Theories – We support objective teaching and equal treatment of all sides of scientific theories.
We believe theories such as life origins and environmental change should be taught as challengeable scientific
theories subject to change as new data is produced. Teachers and students should be able to discuss the
strengths and weaknesses of these theories openly and without fear of retribution or discrimination of any kind.
Edit: Normally I wouldn't really care what happens in Texas if it stayed in Texas but they have such a huge influence on the entire education system in this country things like this scare me.

Yep, should always be allowed to challenge anything. Teachers just need to be able to explain why some of those challenges are dumb as shit (without flat out saying its dumb as shit).

Fucking LOL at being against critical thinking skills though.

Yeah subtext and the history of what they have done with regards to the "theory of life origins" in the past is important.

That section pretty much says "We want our brainwashed kids to remain brainwashed so any education that has the potential to unbrainwash our kids is bad."

My first thought upon reading the OP was "wow, that's actually some nice ideas". Then I remembered it was Texas.

I really wish some of these people would challenge the theory of gravity.

monied interests aren't interested in a populace that can understand and explain fraud, banking, voting, taxing .. take your pick.

when the rich pretty lady on CNN says OWS has no message, you must accept.

Not only are both those quotes impossibly stupid, but... they contradict each other. You should challenge everything, but critical thinking is bad? Compute, does not...

"Controversial theories" is also pretty funny, considering the controversy sparked from their own efforts.

If I remember correctly, Texas schools often don't even have a World History class. It is replaced by Texas History. Can't say I'm surprised.

They teach texas history in 7th grade, and world history in 8th.
