How do they stretch Texas History into a full year of academic learning? It just seems like there's not enough significant history there to make a one year curriculum.

Well, Texas did have it's own revolution. That + joining the south in the civil war and its consequences are pretty much most of it, there's a lot there though.

The big reason Texas gets the spotlight (all Rick Perrying aside) is that for some reason, they set the standard for a lot of textbooks that get printed.

This is the first time I've seen disdain for critical thinking explicitly voiced by an organization as big as the GOP. That's a special kind of crazy. It didn't even take Colbert to put the words into their mouths (or onto their pdfs, as the case may be). This is a naked, unironic assault on reason. There may be creatures this stupid and crazy all over this great union of ours, but it seems very few of them are in a position to influence policy on every child in one of the largest states in the nation.
