What turn based strategy games do you play?

I was just curious to what turn base strategy games other people play. I'm looking for a new one to play since im kinda burnt out on civ 4 & 5. Also if you do play civ5, is the expansion worth getting?

    Thanks for your help!

Turned based Strategy? Think the closest thing I've played to that is Fire Emblem... And I don't believe its at all the same thing. Age of Empires is an RTS, so thats not really relevant.

    But yah, Fire Emblem :X?

Shining Force 3 on the Saturn was a masterpiece, way before it's time, and not fully released in the states.

Heroes of Might & Magic is solid turn-based strategy series if you're looking to stay with PC games. 2 and 5 were the best, imo.

Did you ever play 4? I'd take it over 8 any day.

^ This, the religion mechanic is pretty fun. It's pretty hilarious that you can go to war with someone, then 2 turns after making peace, spread your religion all over their cities and have them help you win the game from that point on, whether they like it or not.

Is 5 better than 6? I tried 6 out and thought it was awful. You get about 5 million options to customize your heroes/parties and none of them seemed to make any difference at all. It felt kind of boring and pointless, especially for a strategy game.

I never played any before 7. But, to my knowledge, 8s the only one where you can be something other then the Ruler. Coolest part of the game. Sometimes I just wanna be a peon who does whatever the hell is asked of me.

Indeed. I was lucky to snag all 3 in Japanese and borrow a friend's copy of the first scenario in English. Good times.

Spectral Souls is one I'm liking, even though Idea Factory games are far from intuitive on.. a lot of things.

I really need to find my copy. Countless hours and playthroughs. Probably more than any other game I have ever played.

i really enjoy the total war series, the first one i ever played was shogun, so i've been really happy with the new shogun they recently released.

its not entirely turn based, there are real time battles, but aside from actual battles, which can be resolved by the computer if you choose to do so, the rest of the game is turn based.

FFT, FFT:A2, Ogre Battle: March of the Black Queen, Tactics Ogre: Let us Cling together, Civ V.

If Total war counts, then Total War: SHOOOOGUUUUN, and if Ogre Battle 64 counts, then Ogre Battle 64.

Yeah the replayability is great, even with the same characters. The whole position thing added a lot of depth. Bored as a ruler? Np, play as somebodies beefcake vassal made for pure ownage. Bored with that? Np, become a prefect and pimp the fuck out of your city. Bored with that? Np, get super smart and become a warlord sabotaging suckers all day long. Bored with that? Np, start a rogue band and raid the fuck out bitches already established lands.

    The fun don't stop.
