If you don't have the Fall From Heaven 2 mod for Civ 4, get that immediately.

I always liked the Super Robot Wars games. Too bad they're JP-onry outside of the two Original Generation games on the GBA.

Caeser 3 is pretty fun. Only 5$ on GOG too. I guess that's not really turn based strategy though... derp.

I'm playing through FFT for the first time ever. I'm still pretty early on, but I can already see why it is such a favorite! I can't believe I held out for so long!

Brigandine(good luck getting a cheap copy though, usually sells for 40 bucks or so.)
    Vanguard Bandits(see above)
    Shining Force 1, 2, and 3
    Dragon Force
    Stella Deus(brutally unforgiving Atlus game.)
    Iron Storm
    Tactics Ogre
    Final Fantasy Tactics

That's all I can think of at the moment.

Oh and all the Front Mission games. Still wish they would release Front Mission 5 here in the states.

Couldn't you just use an emulator for brigandine i'm sure that if it was popular it's out there?

Ugh it is just so fucking good. The story is phenomenal, gameplay is expansive and so detailed, and the challenge is really there (even more-so if you try and steal the unique and powerful weapon/armors from bosses). Make sure you have multiple saves. It is easy to get yourself into a series of fights and not be able beat the latter ones, but have saved and screwed yourself and have to start completely over because you don't have a setup that works. My only complaint about the game, and it is a small one, is that the very last series of fights is a 1 way street, and there are some unique weapons/armor to steal in the fights before the final boss and you don't get spit out of the dungeon after the credits, like is popular is games nowadays.

Damnit, now I want to play FFT really is my favorite game ever

I never finished FFT because of this. Got myself stuck at some guillotine part and couldn't get out/win...

Same here, I have tried to play it twice and both times ended up in fights I just could not win and couldn't do a thing about it.

I liked doing playthroughs as a ruthless ruler, killing anybody I captured that wouldn't join me. The ruffians sure were scared of me.

Liu Chan playthrough was fun too.

as far as the big three go...

final fantasy tactics: great job system. small teams make it less fun sometimes. fantastic story (especially War of the Lions re-translation on PSP)
disgaea series: unbelievably in-depth customization, fun gameplay, large teams. story's a bit silly but that can be a good thing.
tactics ogre: brutally difficult at times, but worthwhile if you like that sort of thing. PSP version isn't quite as hard.

all recommended, for their own reasons.

I'm currently playing Heroes of Might and Magic 3. Me and a friend bought it off GOG, and it's been a blast. We just play through Hamachi and use the TCP/IP function in the game.

Perhaps there's some old glitch or emulation error with the game, but at random times it'll just drop connection between us without warning (whether we play on an actual lan or a virtual lan). Other than that error, it's an amazing game, worth the $5 price we paid for it each and is the best Heroes game in the series in my opinion, better than 2 even.
