Cloning your HDD to a SSD

So I just got a SSD, used a Cloning program and it's giving me the "Bootmgr is missing" shit. Not sure how to resolve this.

I really don't wanna re-install since I don't know hot to mess with the registry for windows to find all the programs installed on my other HDD

Honestly? Yes, theres always a way to ghetto rig what youre trying to do.

99% of everyones advice? Start over fresh with everything. Reinstall windows, games, and apps on the SSD, and use the HDD to store files. Unless the HDD is really sucky, then look in to getting a newer cheapy.

Cloning is iffy at best for most of time in general, and when you factor in HDD to SSD, it's even worse, and when you try to regedit stuff after that point.. it's going to hurt more than help and that SSD becomes worthless.

The good news is, most all programs save your settings into one single folder, so you don't have to worry about that!

Sorry, it is more trouble than it's worth. It really is easier to just reinstall.

Reinstalling is a pain in the ass, but once it's done, you'll be glad you did it. Like any other type of cleaning.

Acronis will clone a boot partition from HDD->SSD just fine if you pre-align the SSD.

    bootsect.exe /nt60 <drive letter of SSD>:

Then copy your data to it.

Warning though, this is fucking ghetto and a bad idea.

Reinstall would be my first suggestion.

edit: also acronis is fucking awful.

Good. If you cloned your shit instead of doing a fresh install, I'd have slapped you.

What you might want to do now is ghost a copy of your fresh install (with whatever shit you would put onto a fresh install) and keep it around if you ever want to reinstall again. I used to do this all the time, saves hours of time. Feels good man.
