Just plain old luck afaik. I never stepped inside old salvage since we stopped lol. The crew was what made it good times.
PS. Fishing goes to 110 now, how can you resist?!

Salvage crew was best crew.
Fuck fishing man. I stopped that shit yeaaaaars ago. That mini game change sucked so much since my old pc was laggy, I couldnt catch things anymore. Plus it was so easy to mindlessly just press enter before. All that update did was fuck over legit players since bots still didn't give a fuck.
That Ebisu Rod quest was total shit too. Fuck fishing.
Yeah introduction of the minigame always confused me. They said it was to stop bots but it actually made it better for bots sonce it introduces IDs that let them release anything they didn't want. And made real players have to pay way more attention to something no one in their right mind would pay close attention to for long periods. Went from being able to play just by sound or hit a maccro and leave for a couple of minutes to pay attention the whole time to something that will never keep your attention
Oh well still gunna turn my rods into lightsabers
Hate...leads to anger...leads to Haks...leads to Ebisu-sabers.
Not sure if this is the right spot to post but ever since coming back to the game, certain areas really lag me down, and I have a better pc now than I did when I previously played the game that I got to handle XIV. Have a quad core i5 and a gtx 780 card now, used to have a dual core and a gtx 460 but in campaign, wildkeeper reives and right outside of the mog house in Western Adoulin depending which way my camera facing.
I seem to recall back in the day XI not being suited for quad cores, is there a way to check and see if this is the case or what could be causing the lag? Also noticed fps drops from 60 to anywhere from 30 to 45 which seems odd since the game used to run at 30 and I never had issues.
There is certain areas of the game I hear tons of people complaining about the lag. Outside of mh, WKR, Delve zones, Vagary zones, and even DM2 area is always laggy for a lot of people. I think some of it is server lag but not all. Does not help when you in a area with lots of other people. Might want to turn some settings down like character models displayed etc. That might help like outside mh or when around a lot of people. Also, some people say turning the pc armor display to static helps with lag sometimes when around a lot of people or mobs fighting, etc like in Vagary.
Silly things like footstep effects and shadows are big culprits of lag if your system is having issues. Not to mention they are things that while do improve the quality of the experience, you don't miss them too much.
I ran the game on max settings with everything turned on, back with my dual core and had no issues. With a stronger processor and a better video card now, I have the same settings, but experience the lag in certain areas briefly. That should not be the case, if they worked fine before with no lag then they should be fine with a better pc is what I'm saying, but they aren't for certain spots. I was asking if that was something with Windower or with the extra processors that could be checked. Never really experienced lag before on my old pc.
May not be the place to ask, but since the discussion is kinda on it, for the past 2-3 weeks I've been crashing fucking like 4-5x a day from video card crashing. It's the most annoying fucking thing in the world.
This happen to anyone else?
Running an nvidia 980 gtx and crashing as well lately, God I miss my old Radeon
Could be a driver issue like the others said, happened to me and I actually have to regress my drivers in order to avoid crashing.
to regress is a huge pain, first you need to uninstall everything that has to do with that driver, then go to the Nvidia http://www.nvidia.com/Download/Find.aspx?lang=en-us and choose the one that matches you card and you think might work. Download that version and install it.
I use a gigabyte GTX 970 under
Version: 344.65 WHQL
Release Date: 2014.11.10
and I crash maybe once every week or so
you have to remember that FFXI runs on some stupid custom Directx 8.1 which has no support due to PS2 limitations... so any further updates to Nvidia cards will just be like the fuck is this?
Have a different card than I originally did in my main run with XI and have had some pretty nasty hard crashes (had to manually power down my PC/reboot) tinkering with private servers and the freebie time. Leaning toward the cause being more about the game's age. Sort of like on the verge of trying to play a game made for Win95 on a Win7 machine, as a crude example. The few times it's happened I've tried to ponder on likely triggers and the closest thing I can think of is that too many things happened to a mob at once, like land a mix of spells, WS, etc..
