@ Malithar - Because I knew later I would end up changing my mind. The urge went up a bit yesterday, and right now I can't resist. So now looking into getting back in. Just hope there is no issues with codes. All I got left is my dinosaur reg code from RoZ. Looking at my account, I got all the expansions registered, except obviously SoA. I go no active friends playing FFXI(I talk to one regularly on FB but he doesn't wont to come back).

So yesterday I was like "hey let's try SoA." What can I say, day off, bored and stupid.

I bought SoA and applied it to my main XI account (not my 2nd account cause I just wanted to try it out before I paid for another copy) I then thought I reactivated both this one and my main - nope.

The first try on my main account failed because NoScript was blocking the 3rd party payment system SE uses. OK unblocked, fine only 1 failed attempt, try again - seemed to go through OK, checked info as always. I then reactivated the 2nd licence as well - successful! - and tried to log in on my main - oops no content IDs. Wut.

Check sub list and only my 2nd account has an active sub.

Wait 3 hours for SE support to open. They tell me to try reactivating my main acct once more even after I told them I already tried. I do it, error 401 pops up. They say there must be a problem with my card. They are going to escalate it. Ok.

Got an email back from SE at 4.45pm today saying to take a photo of my bank card with card number blocked out (except last 4 digits) and send it to them as my card is blocked from the SE site (error 401).

The same card which is currently paying for 1 of my accounts but is apparently just too untrustworthy to take another payment from using the same info. The card with the same name and address details as every card I have ever paid for XI with in the last 9 years.

I've called my bank and they say they haven't blocked my card. It's just SE refusing to take it for this 1 transaction until they see my card to apparently prove I own it... after accepting payment from it already. I seriously do not understand why, this is a new card so I double, no triple checked all the info & it came up with a success message.

3 1/2 years away from xi, what a welcome back. This is the only company that could provide such a rewarding experience to a returning customer (*'-')b

My bank said that asking for a photo of my card is, and I quote, "unusual". SE can do one. Or they can have a photo of me holding my passport standing next to my bank manager, giving them the finger and holding a sign reading "Square Enix have amazing customer service". Why do I keep doing this to myself?! you'd think I'd have learned by now, I must be a closet masochist.

I've never experienced these horror stories most report on personally, but I'd just look into using their Crysta system. I've seen a lot recommend it whenever payment issues pop up.

I'd vote on the photo with the bank manager though, it'd at least make his day.

Three questions:

Do I have to dual box?

All of my jobs were, at best, barely geared with a mix of Empy and Adoulin gear when I quit. However, this SoE system looks like it can make returning feasible. Any recommendations/links to the best/easiest objectives to complete?

Also, I don't know anyone who still plays. Anyone have any recommendations for finding people to play with? I don't mind server-hopping. I'm keen on playing mage jobs, or whatever.

I use Crysta to pay mine since it goes through PayPal, and that's the only transaction I ever use them for.

Dualboxing probably isn't needed with Trust and RoE. There's still a lot of areas you can't use Trust yet (WotG, Abyssea), but they may unlock them there.

Reddit has an LS for all player types on Asura. I know someone that plays on Fenrir from Brazil. I've got an LS on Ragnarok, but they seem technophobic, not wanting to use forums or voicechat ever, some users not even using a PC.

PLD is highly valued if you have OChain or Aegis. The 117 sparks shield is an ok holdover until you can get OChain or Aegis. But without one of those, you won't be desired. NIN is useful in the AA fights as a dd/tank hybrid.

There is a skillup enhancing food, as well as skillup enhancing items you can buy from sparks. And sometimes you'll have Martial Master from mog enhancement.

I'd suggest leveling up THF for farming purposes to get some gil. BRD and COR are always in demand for activities. And also WHM, because nobody likes playing WHM.

As a NIN could I go to Abyssea and solo exp on my own? Or do you need a party to go there? Would the exp gain even be worthwhile?

Definitely possible, but I prefer RoE objectives in the new areas. As a solo nin/dnc, you can benefit from crystal/mob kill/vanquish 200 objective on top of the usual 500+ damage in somewhere like morimar or yorcia.

I admit I haven't read through the entire thread; I guess these questions have been asked already, and I apologize. Anyway.

Apparently I won't be getting my char back because for some reason I thought it would be a good idea not to use my actual birth date and address when setting up my pol account, and my usual passwords don't work.
I left soon after the first Abyssea came out - summer of 010, was it?
I tried to get a friend to make a come back with me, but that's not gonna happen either. Also my old LS/friends pretty much all quit or moved to XIV.
Sad, sad.

And yet, I've been "getting the itch" for weeks now.

Despite all this, is it worth starting over?
Leveling up shouldn't be too hard, and redoing the missions should be a walk in the park with the new level cap, right?
Any chance I can catch up on gear even though I am starting from scratch? Like, go straight from AH gear to decent gear instead of just upgrading the outdated stuff I'd have if I could get my toon back?

(I'd have my friend's char to dual box, but he quit even sooner, so he's all 75s)

Getting help for things like AF is still going to be a pain in the ass(really glad I got all my sch 'dynamis' AF long ago), as well as the 95 cap quest. That's the biggest hurdle for me at least. Might fair better with you.

And there's no AH gear. The AH is dead for low levels. Literally. RoE gives you must of the lowbie stuff up to 50. The rest about iLevel and AF upgrading is covered already in this thread.

Right. Buying the game = buying a new account, and that's what gives a free month. IIRC, you still have to put in card details, but it won't be billed.

So last time I played WHM was back around Voidwatch, and my T2 merits were 4 Devotion, 5 Shellra, and 1 Protectra because people would bitch about getting IV even though defense did fuck all. Since defense now matters more, should I drop Devotion and max Protectra?

I was looking at my merits yesterday. . . and I see SE still didn't do anything for SCH as far as new merits lol. So basically I'm accumulating merits that wont be used for anything >_>. I capped all the important ones.

Well anyway, if anyone else is worrying about starting over from scratch, don't be.

Take this inconsideration:

Normally it would take me 8 hours to take a job from 1 to 15. And this was me never leaving ronfaure, zipping through any EP I can find.
That was. . . pre TOAU

Now it takes 1 hour LOL to go from 1 to 15. This is with or without trust NPCs. No more of that piddly 30xp per EPs. 100+ woo!

I can't imagine how things would be, if all this was in place 10 years ago. I'd be less stressed out that's for sure.
