I just saw they're having a return campaign soon. Is there a place for rdm, blm, or thf in events or is everything mnk and RNG still?

BLM is still a niche job, but it has a use running crowd control in Incursion now.
RDM is used more often as a healer now.
THF is still THF. They're used at any event that has drops and can tolerate them.
I unsubbed about a year ago, came back for like 3 months (got a job to 99), and now I'm diving back in because apparently some of my old friends can't stop talking about it.
What's the fastest way to get gear preferably solo? I keep reading something about Records of Eminence, but apparently I have so much to relearn, and there isn't an appropriate guide that I can find online anywhere it seems.
Records of Eminence is pretty much just objectives to set and fulfill. You can swap them around on the fly, though it'll reset progress if that's relevant.
There are a good number of introductory objectives, which you've likely already done, that will net you a chunk of Sparks to grab some i117 gear/weapons. Things like gobbie bag quests, unlocking jobs, doing AF quests and such. Pick the objective, and it immediately completes and gives you the reward. Most likely, you'll get sufficient Sparks just from that stuff to outfit a job or three.
You can buy the actual spark gear, and if just doing stuff solo, can grind Sparks for upgrade items for AF/Relic as well. Generally speaking, if you want to farm sparks, you'll be combining the "do 500+ damage" repeatable objective with whatever else applies to the zone/mob. If nothing else, you can use that in Abyssea on something like THF or MNK riding crit rate/damage Atmas to be doing 500+ on almost every hit.
Addtionally, look at Wildskeeper Reives. There are RoE objectives for each of the Naakuals there, which net you a KI if you have them set. You can use those to augment the i115 gear from WKRs, which can make some solid items, or be used to fill gaps if nothing else. They're doing the WKR event again with the upcoming 11/11 stuff, which makes the entry item cheap, the respawn short, and (last time anyway) participation level high. Great time to spam the event. You can also trade all 6 KIs for a drop you want, repeatedly.
Skirmish gear is also fairly easy to get, but the augment system is annoying.
Yeah. Getting your butt into WKRs, IMHO at this point is the best way to get "in gear". You've got to unlock them first doing stuff for the Coalitions/quests until you have a high enough combo of fame + coalition shit done to get your dinner invite and the WKR unlocked, but that's just a matter of putting the time in to do them. AF 109/119 pages can be gotten with Sparks as well. I'm certainly using WKR+augment gear as it stands now and that's with an ilvl118 average set of gear.
And -do- get your Trust summons done. Everyone can call up to 3 NPC allies to help in many situations, and they'll really improve your odds. There's an NPC in each city that'll get you started.
Is it possible to solo relics/mythics now? I just got this gear from RoE and I feel like I'm playing on God mode.
For the most part, yes. Relics more so than Mythics. I'm pretty sure most jobs can solo the attestation and fragment NMs these days, but I honestly haven't fought one since the VW era. You can enter salvage solo so farming alex solo isn't an issue, but you'd probably take 2-3 years soloing nyzul to get enough tokens. Einherjar is technically still 6 man but there's plenty of chambers you can do in under 10 min. As for Medusa etc not sure if they can be soloed but I don't think they're that hard since they're 75 era NMs. They're also up more often than they were years ago.
I would be honestly surprised if there was a DD who couldn't afk engaged on a ToAU beastman king and win. Attestation/fragment NMs you might need to tab back to Waltz yourself once or twice.
So on the whole attestation fragment thing Could I solo them on BRD/DNC for the trials? Or the jeuno and windy bosses for that matter.
im sure u can with some kind of melee sets put together. the only to watch out for on city bosses is when they cast death, be sure u have finishing moves to violently flourish them. attestation/fragment trials are just time consuming, so are the city bosses tbh, if you're unlucky.
I was ready to do this on my bard, but lucked out with someone else needing the trials as well + someone else.
Hardest part was probably Beaucedine and Xarcabard, drop rate was pretty terrible for the pop items even with a Thief. Xarcabard only has 6 Satellite Horns with ~5 minute respawns too.![]()
With the free campaign going I figured I'd throw out a few questions before attempting what I'm sure will be a looooong update download. For reference I left maybe a monthish after aldouin came out.
1) I have 99 relic horn and 99 emp harp. Is this A) still top of the line and B) enough to get me into good raid groups in a short amount of time with AH or easily obtainable other gear?
2) It seems like job specific merit points are something I heard about after I quit. These must be farmed on the job you want to spend them on right? And is it impossible to do this on bard since I can't imagine there are colibri parties forming constantly?
3) What do people use for windower options now? I was still using basic windower with scripts when I left.
4) What is the current climate for choc digging, fishing, crafting, etc? Is it worth it, or do people just make money via dynamis etc. Is matsya still a thing or did they shut that down?
5) would progressing in the storyline be a nightmare? As in, are there instanced party fights that nobody does anymore?
6) Is endgame currently party oriented or alliance oriented?
Thanks for any input!
Does anyone know if there is a SoA expansion only download link out there?
I found this: http://www.playonline.com/ff11us/dow...stall_win.html
which is everything
A friend of mine returned, purchased/registered SoA long ago but changed comps and lost the expansion data. Is the link the best bet ?
Thanks,
I took the installer apart when trying to find alternative ways to patch the game.
I can't post urls but here's the link in camouflage.
SoA Installer:
hOtOtOpOsO://mega.co.nz/#!HRkVXIbJ!NVXwq4eYUAl8s7SjnE9ttopFCMVfQKH1suP01JY _Cks
And here's a zip including all the patches after SoA(11/14/2014):
hOtOtOpOsO://mega.co.nz/#!PF1B2aJR!fPtqJ6l00cD8I3isslbKrJ_W-doC1Zzbl5gkvnrMr30
1) Install FFXISetup from the FFXI homepage.
2) Extract the zip to FFXI folder and overwrite everything.
3) Run Playonline and check the FFXI files for errors.
Got this game a couple of weeks ago and had trouble getting into it after coming from ARR
The lack of quest markers or instructions telling you what you've done and need to do next was discouraging, but I'm getting around it, still stuck in windhurst leveling to 20 so I can continue on, just wish I didn't have to rely on guides so much, probs my fault though for not just discovering things myself, people managed to get by back in the day.
There's npc's in towns these days that are meant to guide people on starting quests and so forth, they're marked on the map with a yellow and green flag-thing. If you find you're stuck it might be helpful to talk to those npcs. You can also ask specific questions here if you need some help.
or if you cant find any answer just ask here. some people might seem like douchebags but most are helpful with answers
I thought I was over this. Checking back in on Odin after a 5 years break.
