in all fairness he's also in the most active LS on the server

And not for nothing, but I've been playing my free time in this game 80-90% solo since the beginning.
I prefer the quiet, honestly. I'd rather have WoE 100% to myself most days because the amount of times I'm going to buddy up with a random I've never met, have them not be a derp, and have a great experience out of it is exceptionally low.
I need to do all the CoP missions after like 2-3. Is it soloable?
You can cap skills off shit outside town just soloing and fucking about. Join alluvion skirmish groups and leech drops like a shit head and make them jills. If you get to feeling comfortable with skirmish you should be able to break even and even make money still if you choose to buy your own pop sets. Just prepare to be a little butthurt if you fail on your pop. Its no biggie though. pops on our server are only like 600-700k.
What job are you playing on? when I remade my dude last year I just solo'd all the expansions on thf minus a couple of fights in ToAU because magic damage barriers are cockblocks for phys dps.
oops
Just finished a VERY basic DNC setup. Need to make a curing set but my damage set is ok. Have sub NIN for now, I have SAM to 79 and some other mage stuff above 80 but I think I'll stick with DNC/NIN. Seems like a very easy solo class.
I had him use this but with little results (I used them myself to skillup throwing on NIN from 100 to... high, close to cap).
That's because he used a level 50ish weapon and he was using WSs at start, so the fortalices died very soon, and with 30+ mins repop it's been a mess.
Plus I brought him to the fortalices in Keep in the room with the Kindred Seal warper on the ground.
Bad choice, should've used the ones in Baileys.
Anyway he managed to kill Maat on first attempt so no big deal.
Different question now: another guy of the noobs bunch is PLD. It's his only job and we intend to do Adoulin mission fights all together. He's still 95 (waiting on the others to do the last genkai) but he has started to ask me questions about his gear at 99.
What can we get for him to allow him to be a decent tank for story missions stuff? I intend to get him a Priwen shield and an Eminent Scimitar, and that sets it for Weapon and Shield. But for the rest of the gear?
I can only think of Outrider set with its 10% PDT set bonus. I don't see any other 117 item that he can easily obtain. Well there's gorney+1 feet but I don't think it's worth to break the set bonus for 3% PDT on feet.
Maybe there's something useful from WKRs? Can augment PDT/MDT on them, but small amounts and there's no body anyway, and they're 115.
Sooo... Outrider 5/5 it is?
I hear you there. If I was to come back I'd be the exact same way. I think that's why I've leveled Beastmaster around 8 times (counting private servers). By far the coolest people I met in game ever was when I was leveling Bst and I'd get to a camp or they would approach my camp and we'd team up. Back in the day, when TOAU was semi new, doing the marsh murre, puk, red kisser, or sheep camps with a buddy was some of the most fun I've ever had in any game.
That's awesome those that have started anew are having a blast. It really gets my nostalgia meter in the red wanting me to come back. I just can't justify the cost or the time really. I'll have to live my FFXI dreams vicariously through you all!
I could easily let him get 109 af and relic for macros, but that's it. Can't expect him to fulltime 109 gear.
Could try with Yorium uhm... I'll try to let him leech I guess.
There are several hard parts of 119 AF/Relic/Empy for players like them:
1) Getting the Rem Tales 6-10 (which requires a lot of effort, mostly on my side, and on their side too since unlike with the 1-5 they can't ride on my Seals, but they'll have to farm Merits)
2) Gil for upgrades. Some are pretty cheap, but ohters are totally beyond their reach, especially the relic ones
3) They are monojobs and only one of them (the WHM) is a decent players. The rest is so noob that my trusts probably do better than them, to give you an idea.
If they have BST / RDM / DNC-THF-NIN maybe? Then pretty much every VW that drops upgrade items is soloable. Likewise for aby.
I've full proc'd something like 80% of the Pil I've done as BST/DNC + BLM/BRD for example. 100% solo is kinda lame for drops, but it still works. There are a LOT of options for returning players to just get shit done on their own these days (I just came back about 1.5 weeks ago).
