From what I can tell from the previews, this is a CGI budget flick. Robot fights look great in trailers, but the non-robot fight scenes look like green screen garbage.
I want to see the fail with my own eyes, so could ya'll please avoid such comments for 3 weeks. kthx

I can't believe that the people who are hating on this movie are the otaku/anime lovers. Need to get off evangelion/gundam's balls.
It's only cool until it's popular, bro~
Granted, mecha isn't really my thing and I always felt Evangelion was over-rated, so my actual interest in this movie is minimal. I'll see it eventually, I'm sure, but won't be going to the theater unless someone else pays.
I really hope people remember G-Saviour, and then stop asking for live action Gundam.
Please.
That was just a bad director and everything. Forget it even exists.
Fuck, people cry for anime/manga to the big screen and when someething that is close that is quality they bitch. Fuck those people.
The part I find more amusing is that while you can indeed consider Gundam as one of the most important mecha series, one on which the whole genre built on, the same can not really be said about Evangelion.Fuck, people cry for anime/manga to the big screen and when someething that is close that is quality they bitch. Fuck those people.
Evangelion is a very interesting product that came once the whole mecha genre was quite mature already, there's no point in accusing Pacific Rim to have copied from it. Evangelion itself is built on older, famous titles of the mecha genre.
While I completely agree with you about Gundam since it essentially created the Real Robot genre as opposed to the Super Robot shows that were popular at the time (Mazinger, Getter Robo, etc), you are wrong about Evangelion not being important.
It was a brutal deconstruction of many mecha tropes (both Real & Super), most notably the teenage pilot and the effects of being dropped in to the cockpit. The fact that the majority of mecha shows over the next 10~ish years took major points from it until there was a conscious effort to reconstruct the genre proves that it was a landmark show.
Since this is all completely off topic we can take the discussion to PMs if you want.
Really I just want to talk about how excited I am for Pacific Rim, Giant Robots beating up Monsters, FUCK YEAH!
I'm sorry but I would rather have something that isn't based off an anime/manga because all we do is fuck those up. I'd rather have something that touches on some of the points but none of the DB Evolution or Last Airbender shit.
I'm an anime/manga/mecha fan and I want this movie so damn badly. It's a homage to a lot of old mecha shows. That's great.
Turns out young anime fans don't know what a fucking homage is.
