    Things I wished they'd changed:

    Spoiler: show

    1. Main character shouldn't have been able to escape pod back through the portal. Just let the guy's sacrifice be a.. sacrifice.

    2. You don't turn a switch and have a nuclear reactor turn into a nuclear bomb. At best it melts down.

    3. You don't survive a 1000 mega ton nuke exploding 1km away from you.

    4. Nuclear = electric >.>.

    5. Lack of advanced weaponry on the Jeagers, or at least highlighting the advanced weaponry. As discussed before, all they really used was kinetic force, and we already have weapons that can FAR exceed the kinetic force of a fist punch (even a big fist punch ).

    6. Why did the alien world still look fuzzy when he went through the portal? Wasn't it only fuzzy in the flashback memory hacks because that's how memories look during Drift?

    7. How did they fix Gipsy Danger's fucked up systems after his defeat of the Gorilla/Alligator, in 2 hours..?

    8. Did they really claim the Kaijus wiped out the dinosaurs? Or were they claiming the Dinosaurs were early Kaijus?

    Seriously, I can't be the only fucking guy on God's green earth who knew about the homage:

    Guillermo del Toro has stated that he does not intend Pacific Rim to be a "realistic" depiction of a giant monster invasion. Rather he intends the film to be a "beautiful poem to giant monsters"; that is, a stylized throwback to the giant monster genre. So wondering "Why don't the military use realistic tactics?" is pretty much missing the point of the movie. It's not supposed to be realistic! Besides, anyone who has ever seen a Godzilla movie can testify that, in giant monster movies, it's typical for the military to largely be ineffective against the monsters, with the exception, of course, to secret weapons, which in this case would be the Jaegers.

    Spoiler: show
    Just got back from seeing it again, and so my thoughts.. When the plan is originally shown, it appears they plan to blow up the nuke inside the breach which will cause it to collapse. But at the end, since the reactor had to be manually detonated, Gipsy ended up going the entire way through to their homeworld. But, I think that fits better with the revelation that the Kaiju aren't just primal animals, but the tools of more intelligent creatures. Otherwise, why would they not just open a new rift.

    Variety.

    Also, I actually think this one may go uphill in ticket sales the hard way, thanks to word of mouth.

    Well, yes, I thought about that, and either way the humans are kinda screwed. Unless the alien world was super tiny, one nuke isn't going to do much damage over there in the grand scheme of things. So they can still open a new breach, or maybe even access the same breach elsewhere.

    I certainly wouldn't mind a sequel.

    And I think they claimed that dinosaurs were Kaijus.

    The humans weren't that screwed. They now knw about the genetic coding to get through the breach. And the breaches apparently took 20ish years to stabilize enough to send multiple Kaiju through. So next time a breach is opened, they can just send another Kaiju corpse/nuke down the hatch.

    I'd love to see a spinoff/sequel though!

    maybe the reactor was specifically rigged to be a weapon of last resort?

    Regarding the dinosaurs:
    Spoiler: show
    They aren't implying that Kaiju are dinosaurs or were involved in their extinction. All it says is that the first time they came to Earth was when the dinosaurs roamed the planet. I think the point of it was just to emphasize how humans fucked up the planet and made it perfect for them.

    Doesn't really work that way, as a reactor doesn't run on the enriched uranium that you need for a fissionable explosion. It doesn't matter, this is just a common mistake made in movies.

    And I actually really respect the director for not making this "an army recruitment video" and sticking away from the military aspects.

    @Serra: Ya I think you're right.

    Not in response to anyone here (actually in response to some friends who refuse to give it a chance and were making fun of me for seeing it again..) I've decided that my defense against any criticisms for this movie from now on is going to start with "Because fuck you, giant robots fighting giant aliens!"

    Actually, I got that Jax Teller is not aware of the sword weapon they installed in Gipsy 2.0, simply because it's a new feature.
    Of course, Mako knows all about it and promtly activates that... "Kazoku no tame ni!!"

    She was deferring to him. So when he ran out of options she pulled it out. That totally works as an explanation, right? >.> <.<;

    I actually didn't mind that part too much, because I can kinda relate. When you're caught in the action and heat of things, sometimes you just get tunnel vision and forget about stuff. It's also possible that it was a new feature installed in the 2.0.

    True. It was also my favorite scene in the movie, so I can forgive it :D.

    Saw it at the IPic theater in Boca. Probably the best movie going experience I've had, ever.
