Regarding the dinosaurs:

They aren't implying that Kaiju are dinosaurs or were involved in their extinction. All it says is that the first time they came to Earth was when the dinosaurs roamed the planet. I think the point of it was just to emphasize how humans fucked up the planet and made it perfect for them.

Saw this last night in IMAX. So worth the39 dollars for the two of us to see it. Fucking Hasbro needs to get Transformers over to Del Toro. He knows how giant robots are supposed to be used. I honestly felt like a kid again watching the fights.

Lots of nerdgasms. Really had a lot of fun throughout the movie with ending being the weakest part I guess, but I was expecting that from the start.

Dinosaurs were around too long for that to remotely make any sense.
I interpreted it to mean they made the dinosaurs extinct but decided the environment wasn't that great for them so they decided to check up on us a few million years later. Unless I'm remembering things wrong that should have been the default assumption from hearing the sentence in the theatre. People saying Kaiju are dinosaurs actually got me confused. Was it the fact that dinosaurs had secondary brains as well that got people confused?

Idk why this matters but you could argue that if kaiju are original dinosaurs, the alien had a metric Fuck ton of time to prep and release big ass baddies to cope with the time we had to evolve.

Ya, I watched it again, they were clearly inferring the dinosaurs were kaijuu 1.0.

As for the time difference, that bugged me a little bit as well, but maybe their universe operates on a different time scale.

As for my second viewing:

Still thoroughly enjoyed the fight scenes, though the cheesiness of some of the acting and lines did become a little more glaring the second go around.

Needed to see more cities getting destroyed like in the old godzilla movies.
I know one of them was walking around in the city but it wasn't leveling anything, just walking along the street.
I wanted to see buildings getting 9-11'd with bodies flying everywhere.
Hope new godzilla movie has much destruction.

Should have showed shit like the first kaiju getting killed after destroying the 5 cities.
then how they actualy built the first jaeger and then it fighting and winnig, not just some stills but some action at least. A few clips of diff jaegers ganking kaijus would have been nice.

I find that most things people look at in movies to not make sense actually did and they merely think it doesn't to inflate their ego.
Case in point is the sword. It makes sense that the guy didn't know of it because he never had it in the original. If he had it back then he and his brothers would have used the fuck out of that sword. Instead he had to resort to using improvised weapons until he was outright told "you have a badass sword now". Mako knew about it because she didn't take a multiple year break and knew of the upgrades. Even if you point out that he was drifted with mako they were still at that time using things he already was used to. Ever not remembered something until a person said something else? That kinda happened for Mako since it wasn't at the forefront of her mind until her partner actually thought he was out of stuff. She remembered.thought about it, the drift made the guy realize he had a sword and they immediately went for it.
The drifting doesn't seem to dig into the deepest memories. it seems to go into whatever you're thinking of at the forefront. Mako's little episode was because she kept on thinking about Tokyo. You've gotta be at least halfway thinking about what you want to share first. Ergo sword doesn't get noticed until mako is wondering why he hasn't somehow noticed the giant sword he has.
It made perfect sense in terms of you have a damned giant robot. Go kill some monsters. Anything leftover that can be found via nitpicking like the monsters not actually being able to exist in rl goes into you're overthinking it.

Pentecost's sister died trying to fly into the mouth of the first Kaiju to shove a missle down it's throat. The look on the Kaiju when it suddenly met the first Jeager was also priceless.
