They handed him the paperwork. He didn't bother to read it because 90% of it was crap he already knew and he got bored. See? Easily explained.

They didn't even plan on him fighting, the mech technically didn't have a second pilot the whole movie, up until they either let mako Co pilot or risk straight up losing Hong Kong.

Scratch that, they WOULD lose the city if they didn't just say fuck it, go kill shit Gipsy.

These were my only gripes with the movie. I wanted a bit more on the first fights and a few more jaegers doing some short fights.

Other than that it was pretty awesome. Not gonna try to nitpick a movie like this.

I'm fine with the way they did it. It's pretty cliche now to show the whole "oh shit what's attacking?!" and the first monster kill everyone. it was a different take to jump in 5 years or w/e down the road.

the red letter media review is out and they said pretty much the same thing

The most depressing thing is Grown Ups 2 is still beating it. Deer piss > giant robots. I don't want to live on this planet anymore.

Everyone likes a comedy. Not everyone sadly likes giant robots and monsters beating the shit out of each other. And outside of Guillermo Del Torro, I don't think I recognized any of the major people outside of Ron Pearlman. Hard to go up against an A list cast even if it's a shitty sequel to a successful comedy.

Yeah but at 7% RT score its not even a passable or simply a bad comedy. Its terrible.

Just kinda sad seeing something like Transformers score huge at the box office and then an actual good movie like Pacific Rim just do okay.

After reading this thread I know I'm in the minority but I most defiantly did not enjoy the movie. I really wanted to. Just really didn't. Not sure my flame suit is thick enough for what I'm about to unleash ;x

I had to check RT cause I didn't believe it had a 7%....... That's just terrible..

You'd think Pacific Rim would do about the same as the Transformers movies at the box office. I mean, yes Transformers has the nostalgia factor, but I imagine most Transformers fans hate the Bay films. You would think the quality of Pacific Rim would balance that out, and so for most people, it'd just be another giant robots movie..

Went to see it a second time in IMAX 3D. Totally worth it, definitely getting the Blu-ray as well.

Seeing it the second time around, I could help wonder if there was a bunch of politics in play in the background. Seems like a bad strategy put all the defense budget into a wall that might keep the kaiju out vs building a giant robots that could just kill them instead.

As a huge fan of Transformers, and someone who frequents transformer specific fan boards frequently...it seems the general consensus is pretty split on liking and hating the movies. That said, it's the casual "I remember that as a kid!" fans who really boosted the sales of those movies moreso then the actual "Transformers Fans".

It's not the first I heard of people not enjoying the film. A big complaint seems to be how cliche the characters and stories are and such things like that. Personally I saw those cliches to be very deliberate throwbacks to characters from old school anime/giant monster movies where this film takes so much inspiration from. I mean, upon heavier scrutiny one could easily find a large number of minor flaws with the film and it's logic, but I enjoyed the film too much to really let those issues bother me.

That said, my personal biggest issue seems to be one many people share, not enough action time for the other bots. Especially with how built up they were, Typhoon and Cherno went down way too fast. Just giving them each one fight to show off in would've helped really show how badass these things were supposed to be. They wouldn't even have had to be long fights, just short little battles like the one Eureka had against the Kaiju that busted through the wall on that news report. The Kaiju coming through the wall showed how strong it was and Eureka putting it down quick and easy showed how badass HE was. Some short little "show, don't tell" scenes like that for the other two would have gone a LONG way imo.

I'd be shocked if it doesn't kill in China/Japan. Transformers did well because they pander to the lowest common denominator. Like explosions and slow-mo? Boom, done. A few ass-shots from some model. Bam, done. What about the armed forces w/ some rock music? Throw in a few panoramic shots of a torn US flag for added sentimental value.

Guillermo del Toro Reveals Massive Monster Plan for 'Pacific Rim 2'

It remains to be seen if the world will get to see a sequel to Guillermo del Toro’s monsters-vs.-mechs mash-up Pacific Rim. The film is still holding its own at the box office, but it hasn’t opened quite as well as Warner Bros. had hoped (the film is doing better overseas, at least).

While the future of the franchise is still up in the air, that hasn’t deterred GdT and writer Travis Beachem from planning out the next phase in the man-vs.-Kaiju war. And after reading all the things the duo has in mind for a sequel, I’m really hoping they get to make one.

The director recently chatted with MTV, and he revealed some of the things that are going to be part of the next installment – including the biggest reveal of all: there will be a Kaiju/Jaeger hybrid!

GdT explains a bit about how this might come to pass in the quote and video below – and it’s slightly SPOILERISH, so you might want to stop here if you haven’t seen the film yet.

If you’re still here, the following is del Toro’s hint about how it all might work.

    Spoiler: show
"I’ll tell you a couple of things. We will have Gipsy 2.0 for sure. Second thing is you’re gonna see a merging of Kaiju and Jaeger. And that is quite special.

Just think about it for a second. We sent Gipsy to the other side, right? It exploded, but whatever remains stays there. We’ve drifted with a Kaiju brain. Well, then start riffing on that and you’ll get to something."

That all sounds really cool – but what do you guys think? Are you on board for more Pacific Rim? Does a Kaiju-Jaeger hybrid sound as awesome to you as it does to me? Let us know what you think below.

It is. if you go back earlier in the thread i have no doubt someone quoted Guillermo del toro basically explaining that the wall was the rich people saying fuck you to the rest of the planet/poor and trying to keep themselves safe while everyone else died. The walls are lined with guns and weaponry to shoot anyone that tries to get inside the "safe" zones. It's supposed to parallel the whole US border situation a bit too. There's other stuff like that everywhere behind the scenes. Everything there has a back story even if you don't get to see it in the film.
