Sweet, I'm glad they got the approval. I'm down for more!!
Nothing's been approved >_>
Studios do that all the time. It doesn't mean it's going to get a prequel/sequel. GDT was literally working for 5+ years on the Hobbit and was canned before filming.
A small approval is better than no approval.
Too bad it doesn't guarantee anything.
Anyone else notice any homages to other Kaiju films? King Kong, Clover, and Rodan seemed pretty apparent. Anyone notice any others?
Just came from the movie (IMAX 3D). I enjoyed it but god damn the acting and cheesyness of some of the writing was dire (The line 'Hey Mako, In the past I didn't used to think of the future, but I do now' was the worst for me).
Also hated that US<->Japanese dynamic cliche that you find alot in US movies (the last samurai comes to mind). It could be that I found the main actor to be so poor/grating that any plot development he was attached to bugged me.
The actor that played the Marshall (from the Wire) was great though.
Spoiler: show
Finally saw this yesterday and enjoyed the hell out of it. The story may have been a bit weak, but I didn't really pay to watch Oscar bait I paid to see big robots fighting big monsters and got exactly was I wanted.

Pacific Rim & Lost Planet 3 Plan Collaboration
CAPCOM announced last week that it will be doing a collaboration between Guillermo del Toro's Pacific Rim film and CAPCOM's own Lost Planet 3 game, which is set to ship on August 29. The film will open in Japan on August 9, and more details about the collaboration will be announced in the future.
Pacific Rim is a feature film where humans are fighting an invasive race called "Kaiju," monsters found in the pacific ocean, to the death in battle suits known as "Yaeger." CAPCOM's Lost Planet 3 is a third-person shooter that takes place on a planet called EDN III. The player must fight off the indigenous Akrid race using their bare hands and guns, or Rig mecha. The similarity in the two story lines is what inspired the collaboration.
Oh. My. Fucking. God.
If we some how get a jeager in lp3 so help me god...
